New Salary Threshold for Skilled Workers

Remember that the UK government announced at the end of 2023 that other immigration changes, such as adjustments to visitor regulations and an extension of the Young Mobility program, will take effect on January 31, 2024.
Changes to the Visitor Rules
Please remember that visitors are allowed to engage in certain activities while in the United Kingdom, as outlined in the visitor rules. The visiting guidelines will be modified to include the following adjustments as of January 31, 2024.
1. Intercorporate Activity
When visiting a group business in the UK, individuals who are employed overseas may engage in direct client work as long as it is directly related to their employment abroad. This isn’t the same as outsourcing a job or providing a service to their employer overseas.
2. Remote Working
To ensure transparency, the law has been updated to confirm that visitors to the UK are permitted to work remotely. However, this can’t be their primary reason for coming.
3. Research and Legal Services
The range of activities that scientists, researchers, and academics are allowed to do while visiting the UK will be expanded if the study is directly related to a project that directly affects their work overseas. The activities that people in legal employment are permitted to engage in will also be expanded. This will allow the provision of some legal services, such as transactional legal services including contract writing, advocacy, arbitration, and litigation.
4. Permitted Paid Engagements
The list of approved paid engagements will also change as of January 31st. The list of approved paid engagements will be updated to include conference speakers who wish to be compensated for this type of work. Additionally, the road is becoming a part of the regular visitor route. This implies that there will be no need for a particular approved paid engagement visa going forward.
Even after entering the UK, individuals are still required to schedule their engagement and finish it within 30 days after arriving.
5. Expansion of the Youth Mobility Scheme
Young people of particular nationalities can live and work in the UK for up to two or three years under the Youth Mobility Scheme. This path does not require employer sponsorship. The fact that there will be more visas available for citizens of South Korea and Japan is also good news. For citizens of Japan and South Korea, the requirement to get an invitation to apply is being removed. In the future, businesses should ensure that guests visiting their UK organization are only engaging in authorized activities while there.
