About University of  Alabama Birmingham Scholarships

UAB awards merit scholarships for a variety of academic accomplishments. Merit scholarships will be considered for current high school students who apply to UAB either with test results or without them. Scholarship recipients for merit must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or onshore students with certain types of visas.

Concerning University of  Alabama Birmingham

From the establishment of the Medical College of Alabama in 1859 until the creation of the University of Alabama’s Birmingham Extension Center in 1936, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) has its origins.

Birmingham became the home of the university’s medical center in 1945, following the relocation of the Medical College of Alabama from Tuscaloosa. For the first time, the university’s two academic divisions in Birmingham were combined when the Extension Center was relocated to a newly built building next to the Medical Center in 1954.

Later, the Extension Center and the Medical Center combined administratively in November 1966 to become the “University of Alabama in Birmingham,” which functions as an organizational branch of the University of Alabama (located in Tuscaloosa). Upon its creation, the University of Alabama System consisted of three campuses, and in 1969, UAB became one of its independent universities.

With an academic health center that is nationally renowned, UAB is now a comprehensive urban university. The state’s major metropolitan area is home to only one public, four-year university, UAB. Both in terms of size and employment, UAB is the biggest research institution and employer in the state of Alabama.

General Eligibility Criteria:

Current high school seniors admitted with test scores are automatically considered for ACT- and GPA-based merit scholarships. December ACT or SAT scores taken in their senior year will be the final scores considered for automatic merit scholarship review.

University of  Alabama Birmingham Scholarships Coverage

NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Academically gifted candidates should apply to UAB, and we are pleased to identify and honor numerous national and worldwide scholars. Students are only eligible to receive one of the awards below, although national scholarships can be stacked on top of any merit awards.

• National Merit Finalist: $4,000 per year
• National Hispanic Scholar: $2,500 per year
• National African American Scholar: $2,500 per year
• National Indigenous Scholar: $2,500 per year
• National Rural/Small-Town Scholar: $2,500 per year
• IB Diploma Holder: $2,500 per year
• IB Candidate: $1,000 per year

UAB BIRMINGHAM PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP

Students who graduate from a Birmingham City school have the chance to apply for the UAB Birmingham Promise Scholarship. Students must be accepted into UAB as first-time, full-time freshmen by December 1 to be eligible for this scholarship. They must also submit the necessary Birmingham Promise, Inc. application by the stated dates.

In addition, to be considered for federal grants (Pell and SEOG), students need to finish and submit the FAFSA by December 1. Only up to 15 credit hours per semester may be covered by the UAB Birmingham Promise Scholarship if a student has been awarded UAB merit scholarships and/or federal awards for which they are eligible.

Also, this grant does not pay for housing or meal plans. If the student fulfills the academic and application renewal requirements by the stated dates each year, the scholarship may be awarded for up to four years (eight semesters).

However, the UAB Birmingham Promise Scholarship is awarded to students without regard to their eligibility for federal grants or merit scholarships, but they do need to have a completed FAFSA for their aid options to be displayed. Are you prepared to transfer to UAB? The following documents are required to apply as a transfer student:

• filled-out application;
• a $40 nonrefundable application fee that must be paid with a credit or debit card
• authentic transcripts from every institution or college you have studied at
