Senior Geotechnical Engineer at AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited
As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, we need someone with a lot of experience and their own drive to join our hardworking team.
ROLE, PURPOSE, AND CONTEXT
To build and lead a strong site geotechnical engineering team that can keep improving performance while meeting business goals and objectives. To reduce geotechnical risk by finding geotechnical hazards and recommending the right steps to take.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Set up the geotechnical processes and procedures that are needed for the Obuasi Mine to work.
- Give clear geotechnical planning data so that the rolling 18-month plan can be updated on time every three months.
- Create the annual budget for the Geotechnical cost center so that the required goals for the annual, medium-term, and long-term business plans can be met.
- Deliver the work of the Geotechnical function within the timeframes, costs, and key performance indicators (KPIs) that have been approved and set.
- Show safety leadership and work to improve the safety, health, environmental, and sustainable development culture in the Geotechnical department and with your own
- Geotechnical team.
Responsible and answerable for their team’s environmental responsibilities and performance. They do this by holding informal meetings with their team and telling them about any flaws in the way things are done for the environment. - Follow all of the environmental work rules that the Departmental Manager has given you.
- Go to all of the scheduled and assigned training meetings for the environment.
- Give the team the tools and knowledge they need to learn how to deliver the annual budget well and consistently, based on their role and level of authority.
- Develop and keep good relationships with internal stakeholders (Corporate, Group
- Planning & Technical, sister mines, etc.) and external stakeholders (Regulatory Agencies and Authorities, Minerals Commission) to find out what societal and regulatory expectations and requirements are and how they are changing.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Qualification
BSc in Geological or Geotechnical Engineering or something similar.
Experience
- At least three years of experience and technical skills and knowledge of open pit and/or underground mining geotechnical design and implementation.
- Shown that they can do technical geotechnical work with little oversight
- Experience using Mining Geotechnical Software; Ability to talk to people.
Skills
- Understands all parts of design basis and mechanisms identification and has shown they can deal with their effects on the design with little help.
- Knows when to ask for help from specialists.
- Knows how the inputs and outputs of a design specification affect the design parameters and how they can be changed to cut down on variability.
- Can put a new design philosophy into practice while being supervised.
- Set up and take care of a monitoring system that works well for the mining method.
- Looks into places where the LOM design’s predicted operational limits are different in a big way.
- Short-term focus: Does advanced evaluations and trend analyses and reports the results at daily or weekly production meetings. Knows when to get help from a specialist.
- Collects and manages relevant data to ensure and control quality to a high standard.
- As part of the analysis process, uses the right statistical analysis, technical models, systems, and tools.
- Makes conclusions and backs them up with correct information and analysis that fits the mining method.
- Construct numerical models in simple codes.
- Knows the key operational parameters needed to run numerical codes and equipment within the limits set by the designers.
- Understands the basic assumptions and reliability of numerical codes and equipment, and can tell when results are out of the ordinary.
- Building Good Working Relationships: The ability to build and keep good working relationships with colleagues and people in other departments.
