The Faculty for the Future Fellowship, also known as the Schlumberger Foundation Fellowship, is an excellent opportunity for women from developing countries and emerging economies to pursue advanced studies or research in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The scholarship aims to help talented women who are preparing for PhD courses or post-doctoral research at premier universities and research organisations outside their home country. Successful PhD candidates may receive up to US$50,000 per year, and post-doctoral researchers may get up to US$40,000 per year, with the possibility of renewal until the authorised programme is completed.

The Schlumberger Foundation launched the Faculty for the Future programme in 2004 to encourage women from developing and emerging economies to pursue advanced studies and research in STEM fields.

Requirements for the Schlumberger Foundation Fellowship in 2027
1. Be a woman from a developing or emerging economy who qualifies.
Applicants should be female nationals of underdeveloped nations or emerging economies where women are under-represented in STEM subjects.
The Faculty for the Future initiative determines the eligible-country list based on information from several sources on development, science, gender, and education.
2. Citizenship Requirements.
Applicants must be nationals of an eligible developing country or emerging economy.
3. Pursuing PhD or Postdoctoral Research
The fellowship assists women in preparation for:
- PhD studies in STEM fields;
- Post-doctoral experience in STEM disciplines.
4. Applied to or Accepted by a Host Institution Abroad
Applicants should be registered or admitted or applied to a host university or research institute overseas. The final degree for sandwich students must be conferred by the host university abroad or jointly with the home institution.
5. Demonstrate Excellent Academic Performance
Applicants are expected to have a strong academic background. Academic performance is an important part of the screening process. Candidates should be ready to present their previous academic achievements and qualifications.
6. Demonstrate a Desire to Come Back Home
A key part of the Faculty for the Future Fellowship is the applicant’s commitment to return to their home nation or region after completing their studies.
7. Have Teaching or Professional Experience
Applicants must have a proven record of teaching experience in their home country and a commitment to return home to contribute to STEM growth.
