About the Fellowship
The programme equips young democracy leaders with skills, networks, and practical tools. Fellows explore new ideas and share experiences with activists from other countries. Each fellow pursues a project on a democratic challenge in their own country or region. Projects need not study or compare the United States. Fellows work closely with NED staff and its core institutes.
What Fellows Receive
Fellows receive a monthly stipend for living costs. It covers a furnished short-term rental, food, and local transport. They also receive basic health insurance. NED pays for round-trip economy flights to and from Washington. Fellows join seminars, roundtables, and field trips. They connect with government, civil society, academic, and media communities.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must be 30 years old or younger. They must show commitment and experience in advancing youth participation in democracy. Applicants affiliated with civic or human rights groups are especially encouraged. Each fellow must complete at least one product. Examples include an article, toolkit, podcast, or video.
Required Materials
Applicants create an account on NED’s online application system. They present their project idea and background in their own voice. NED prohibits copy-pasting AI-generated answers. Recommendation letters are due by December 4, 2026.
