Job Title: Equipment Permitting & Licensing Trainer – Fixed Term

The Ahafo Mine is in the Brong-Ahafo region, and the Akyem Mine is in the Eastern region. Both are owned by Newmont’s Africa Operations. Ghana is also putting a lot of effort into near-mine exploration and development in order to replace its gold reserves every year. Newmont Africa also has programs in Ethiopia and Morocco that are just getting started.

Our Akyem and Ahafo mines have put a lot of money into making the communities where they are located more sustainable. These include setting up Development Funds in the areas where we do business in Akyem and Ahafo. Each mine will put US$1 per ounce of gold sold and 1% of its annual net profit before taxes into its own Development Fund.

About This Role
To make sure that Mining Operations/Equipment Operators get training programs that are both cost-effective and based on their skills and values. It involves setting up classes, on-the-job training, and assessments to make sure that the people working in the mines are trained and skilled. It also involves putting in place and keeping an eye on the local workforce.
In This Role You Will:
Compliance
- Follow all of Newmont Africa’s requirements for health and safety at work, as well as any Ghana laws that may apply.
- Make sure that all policies and procedures for recording are followed.
Needs Analysis
Help figure out what kind of training the mining workforce needs.
Support
- Help with the company’s mobile equipment licensing system that has been approved.
- If needed, travel to other Newmont sites and help out there.
Training and Taking Stock
- Run programs for immersive and simulator training.
- Run training programs on how to operate mobile equipment.
- Run programs for driver and live vehicle licenses and permits.
- Make packages for training.
- Train everyone in the country to meet the Newmont Standards.
- Mine staff are taught how to follow standard operating procedures.
- Assess operators at different levels of skill to make sure they are getting better.
- Assess and evaluate to help with the hiring of operators.
- Your Checklist of Training, Skills, and Experience:
Formal Qualifications (including Professional Registrations):
- A Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Mechanical or Mining Engineering.
- Certification for Trainers and Assessors in the Workplace.
Knowledge:
Know the laws in Ghana about health and safety at work.
Experience:
- Between five and ten years of experience running heavy mobile equipment in open pit mining.
- On-the-job and off-the-job experience with training based on skills.
Skills in technology:
- Communication and social skills are at a high level, both in writing and in person.
Leadership skills. - Ability to plan and carry out activities for process training.
- Coaching skills.
- Strong skills in training facilitation and giving talks.
- Ability to use Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, which are all part of the Microsoft Office suite, on a computer.
