POSITION: Security Operation Centre Clerk
Job Purpose and Organizational Context.
Serving in a shift schedule at a 24-hour Security Operations Centre that maintains radio and telephone communication with all UN personnel in the Area of Operation. The Security Operation Centre Clerk will assist UN officials and dependents.
In accordance with the country’s Security Risk Management (SRM), the United Nations system in Ghana established Security Operation Centres (SOC) in Accra and Tamale, whose primary role is to ensure the safety and security of all UN officials, dependents, and property. The newly established Security Operations Centers are intended to work 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The position is fully sponsored by UN agencies in Ghana via the Local Cost Shared Security Budget. The SOC Clerk will support all UN Agencies’ staff and dependents with radio communication and security. The SOC Clerk will report to the Field Security Associate, Radio Technician, and Security Advisor for Ghana.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the Security Operations Centre.
- Receive, process, record, and forward all security-related information to the proper quarters via standard communication channels.
- Inform the Supervisors promptly of any incident or accident.
- Maintain a communication link with security authorities (police and military) to provide essential support to UN staff members and receive updated information on security issues.
- Register and forward all e-mail messages and communications deposited during working and off-duty hours.
- Accurately identify the exact location/grid references of all incidents/accidents and provide information to supervisors and police;
- Maintain both the computerized and manual registration.
- Inform the incoming duty security operation assistant about all events, particularly any pending situations that require action.
- Conduct radio checks as directed by the SA/ASC/Local Security Assistant (LSA) and Security Operations Centre Supervisor.
- Maintain current records of all security section supplies.
- Conduct residential security surveys.
Provide security support.
- When necessary, help police during investigations in all security-related situations involving UN personnel.
- Provide appropriate assistance to visiting staff members who require help via radio or telephone channels.
- Keep the SA/ASC/LSA and Security Operations Centre Supervisor aware of any information or incident that could have an impact on the security of staff and property.
- Prepare and conduct security briefings.
Help to maintain security communication equipment.
Ensure that all communication devices (i.e., VHF and HF radios, fax mobile, and landline phones) are in perfect working order at the start of duty.
Provide administrative assistance.
- When working the day shift, assist with the preparation of UN IDS and access badges.
- Perform any additional tasks assigned by the SA / ASC / LSA and the Security Operations Centre Supervisor.
- The incumbent performs additional duties within their functional profile as deemed required for the proper operation of the Office and Organization.
Required skills and experience.
- Education: Secondary education is essential.
- Requirements for this position include a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in telecommunications, security, or similar fields, with a secondary education.
- Experience and knowledge of the UN Security Communication System (GSM, VHF, Sat phone, Eta) are desirable.
- Prior experience with the United Nations or an international non-governmental organization (NGO) is desirable.
- Demonstrated attention to detail. The position requires strong computer abilities, including MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, as well as the ability to effectively capture, understand, and communicate information in different settings.
- Language requirements (required/desired).
- Fluency in the English language is necessary.
- Fluency in the Ghanaian language is necessary.
