We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Live-in Nurse (5 days per week, including weekends) to offer comprehensive care for an elderly couple living in Accra. The successful candidate will be accountable for providing high-quality care and maintaining clear English communication with family members. This is a live-in role that calls for a compassionate, assertive, and proactive individual with substantial experience in dementia care and planning.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide daily personal care and support with activities of daily living (ADLs) to elderly parents.
  • Monitor health problems and administer prescriptions.
  • Create, implement, and routinely update personalized care and well-being plans.
  • Supervise part-time care assistants
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly living space.
  • Facilitate and ensure regular communication between aging parents and their children, including daily reports on health and well-being.
  • Participate in activities that enhance physical and mental well-being.
  • Take the initiative to discover and handle the needs of aging parents without being prompted.
  • Assist with mobility and physical rehabilitation exercises.
  • Offer sympathetic friendship and emotional support.
  • Coordinate medical appointments and communicate with healthcare providers as needed.
  • Ensure adequate nourishment and meal planning.
  • Have ownership over the care and well-being plan and its implementation, including weekly updates.
  • Deliver activities that will stimulate and engage both clients.
  • Provide family members with accurate daily progress reports in English via electronic means.
  • Create weekly care and wellness plans and share them with family members.
  • Supervise the weekly menu in the home.
  • Keep track of your overall health and vital signs, such as heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Assist clients with dressing, washing, and using the restroom.
  • Serve meals and assist in feeding as needed.
  • Arrange for medical, dental, and family appointments on behalf of the family.
  • Maintain constant communication with the customers’ children and family members, using methods such as phone calls and Zoom.

Essential Qualifications And Experience Required

  • Certification requires at least a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) designation.
  • Experience: A minimum of three years as a nurse or community nurse, with at least three years working in dementia care.
  • Communication: Excellent English verbal and written communication skills, capable of supporting clear and consistent communication with senior clients and their families.
  • Technology: Capable of using computers and related software (e.g., Microsoft) for communication and care documentation.
  • Initiative: Proven capacity to take the initiative and solve issues without prompting.
  • Supervisory Skills: Previous experience managing and overseeing other nursing assistants.
  • Care Planning and Wellbeing Planning: Expertise in creating and implementing personalized care and well-being plans.
  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and the capacity to make decisions in the best interests of patients.
  • Assertiveness: Confident and assertive in managing tasks and staff, guaranteeing high-quality care.
  • Empathy: A high amount of empathy and sympathy for elderly people.
  • Adaptability: means being flexible and adaptable to changing requirements and situations.
  • Organizational Skills: Extremely organized with exceptional time management abilities.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Understanding and respecting the cultural backgrounds of elderly parents and their families.
