Job Description
The Feed the Future Ghana Trade and Investment (GTI) Activity seeks to improve the enabling environment for Ghana’s economic growth by (1) facilitating growth in export-oriented trade; (2) improving and developing product standards; (3) catalyzing investments in private enterprises related to high-value commercial crops; (4) promoting job creation, particularly among women and youth; (5) promoting economic diversification; and (6) increasing foreign exchange revenue from high-value exports. GTI will make it easier to invest in companies that sell goods across borders, encourage innovation, and strengthen the whole trade industry.
Position Summary
The Communications Manager will report to the Chief of Party and collaborate extensively with technical personnel. S/he will be in charge of creating all communications deliverables and managing the project’s public-facing features. S/he will be in charge of project messaging, marketing, media, public awareness, branding, and other communication initiatives.
Also, S/he will be expected to creatively use various types of media to raise public awareness of project activities, such as videos, web shorts, podcasts, radio messages, interactive media, social media, and pamphlets. S/he will oversee the development and implementation of the Communications and Outreach Plan, ensuring strategic visibility of all project activities and outputs; effectively communicating project impact to project stakeholders and beneficiaries; and directing project development and reporting on activities that are impactful, representative, and highly visible.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
Compile, prepare, and submit biweekly reports to donors.
- Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual reports for submission to donors. This includes coordinating with the technical staff to draft regular inputs, copy editing, and formatting.
- Create and monitor the implementation of the Communications and Outreach Plan, which will target project recipients and stakeholders.
- In partnership with office and technical staff, oversee the regular development of activity communication and marketing materials such as success stories, presentations, meeting materials, workshops, and briefs throughout GTI.
- Ensure that communications services and activity communications strategies adhere to relevant marketing and strategy requirements.
- Examine external communications to guarantee quality control.
- Assist with the production and presentation of reports to USAID and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with project technical leads to ensure visible project implementation and to effectively convey project impact to recipients and stakeholders.
- Provide timely feedback on deliverables as needed.
- Other duties as given by the supervisor.
Location and Reporting
The Communications Manager will be situated in Accra, Ghana, and reporting to the Chief of Party.
Required Skill or Experience
- A minimum of 7 years of communications experience, preferably in development.
- Bachelor’s degree (ideally in social sciences, communications/marketing, international relations, international development, or a similar discipline).
- Comprehensive communications expertise in both local and international settings, including work on USAID-funded initiatives.
- Demonstrated English writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to package and communicate information.
- Experience developing and implementing communications strategies, as well as delivering communication advisory services to activity and client teams.
- Familiarity with USAID branding and marking guidelines is preferred.
- Superior performance in a deadline-driven setting is desirable.
- Familiarity with graphic design tools (such as Adobe Creative Suite) is preferable.
- Legally authorized to work in Ghana.
- Excellent native English speaking and writing skills. The ideal candidate will be a skilled writer who pays close attention to editorial, formatting, and details.
- The ideal applicant will also bring new ideas for enhancing and improving traditional communication methods.
