MONGABAY Student and Graduate Internship Program 2024
Motivated and gifted individuals are now being asked to apply for the MONGABAY Internship Program, which will start in the spring of 2024 and run from January 1 to June 30, 2024. The internship gives the interns the chance to advance their writing careers and hone their craft.
This internship is a partially funded program. The interns will be able to hone their writing abilities and have their news pieces featured on the well-known Mongabay website, which reaches millions of readers worldwide each month.

How about you?
During a six-month period, our interns will write about six news pieces covering a range of environmental and conservation-related subjects. One of our editors will assign topics to our interns. The interns at Mongabay will collaborate closely with Mongabay journalists, gain insight into the organization’s journalism programs and procedures, and receive one-on-one coaching and guidance from fellow editors. They will also receive writing guidelines and feedback on their news stories prior to publication.
Procedure for Selection:
We will notify the applicants around the middle or end of December. In the interim, we ask that you refrain from emailing us to inquire about the progress of your application. In the event that you are chosen, your tenure will begin in January 2024.
Timetable of Programs:
This is a partially compensated offer. Four of the pieces the interns submit will be paid for; the other two are included in the first learning phase. The pricing for these articles will be discussed with the internship editors when the time comes.
The interns will be required to meet predetermined deadlines while working online from home or any other location that suits them best. Although the intern’s weekly hours are negotiable, a minimum of 10 hours must be worked each week for the whole six-month period. Our interns must be adaptable and make plans appropriately because some weeks may need substantially less work than others, requiring as little as 15 hours.

Regarding Mongabay
Inspired by his love of tropical forests, Rhett A. Butler launched Mongabay.com in 1999. He dubbed the website Mongabay after a Madagascar island.
From that time on, Mongabay has developed into the most visited rainforest information website globally, as well as a reputable source for environmental news reporting and analysis. These days, Mongabay publishes content in around a dozen languages and receives over 6 million monthly visitors.
Mainstream media outlets, including The Economist, Bloomberg, National Geographic, and the Associated Press, frequently use it as a source of information. Development organizations and civil society organizations alike generally acknowledge Mongabay as a reliable and accurate source.
Over time, Mongabay has had a significant influence. Articles on the website helped stop disastrous projects like a plan to destroy 70% of Woodlark Island off New Guinea for a massive oil palm plantation, and they also spurred protests in Madagascar against a French shipping business transferring illegally felled timber from rainforest reserves.
Investment flows have been impacted by stories on Mongabay, such as the choice to prevent logging in Cameroon’s rainforests in order to receive payments from the carbon market. Even art has been inspired by stories and pictures.
