We are now in an exciting era at the Mastercard Foundation as we ramp up the implementation of the Young Africa Works plan, which aims to enable 30 million young people across Africa to find dignified and fulfilling work.
To make the Foundation more accessible to our partners and program participants, we have built offices in Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Uganda. These offices provide substantial in-country assistance for the Young Africa Works initiative. We work with governments, the private sector, educators, and other funders to improve the quality of education and vocational training, prepare young people for the workforce, increase access to financial services for entrepreneurs and small businesses, and connect jobseekers with meaningful employment opportunities.

Understanding the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program
The Scholars Program is the Mastercard Foundation’s premier educational endeavour. Since its inception in 2012, the program has expanded to a $2 billion project that collaborates with 45+ partners worldwide and allows 50,000 young people in Africa to continue secondary or university education.
The Scholars Program Roadmap to 2030 sets an ambitious goal of strengthening higher education ecosystems and driving innovation in Africa so that young people, particularly those who are most marginalized, can gain access to relevant and inclusive education, transition smoothly to dignified, in-demand work, and live transformed lives.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Bilingual Lead Scholars Program Partner Network, which reports to the Head of the Scholars Program Partner Network, will be in charge of developing and implementing partnerships with higher education institutions in Africa, Europe, and North America to ensure the Scholars program’s successful design and delivery.
The chosen candidate will be stationed in Accra, Ghana.
WAYS TO CONTRIBUTE
- Lead the creation of a portfolio-level strategy, including outcomes, approach, and workplan.
- Create terms of reference for new projects and oversee the identification of external resources to enable delivery.
- Contribute to the creation of new initiatives or programs to strengthen institutional capacity and effectiveness across the partner network.
- Assist Partners with implementation, tracking progress, and guaranteeing high-quality program delivery.
- Contribute to problem resolution and escalate concerns as needed.
- Use the Foundation’s tools and processes to manage data, projects, and activities effectively.
- Support data collection and identification of learnings, ensuring that insights and impacts are consistently and effectively reported and incorporated into program adaptations.
- Ensure that partners ensure the safety of young people, especially scholars and program participants.
- Responsibilities include managing consultant performance, cultivating stakeholder connections, and coordinating cross-organizational collaboration to maximize effect.
- Develop and maintain excellent commercial partnerships with other Foundation teams.
- Use comments to make recommendations that will help shape the overall program development process.
- Coach and mentor colleagues who are committed to producing high-quality work, adhering to the Foundation’s values, and creating a healthy and collaborative workplace.
- Some leaders may be asked to line manage others on the team.
- Champion the safety of Scholars and all program participants.
- Contribute to the design of a new program or change an existing one into something more impactful in a multicultural setting.
- Managing various projects, forming alliances, and delivering outcomes in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Who Are You?
- A master’s degree or professional certification in international development, education, public policy, social sciences, economics, or a similar discipline is necessary.
- Excellent understanding of the Francophone and worldwide higher education ecosystems and contexts.
- Working across cultures and geographies is necessary, as is prior expertise in Francophone Africa.
- Deep understanding of critical challenges, emerging trends, and barriers to education and young employment in Africa.
- Excellent analytical skills, the capacity to think strategically, and to participate as a thought partner in the foundation’s strategy creation.
- Results-oriented, motivated by a strong feeling of performance excellence and urgency.
- Driven by a desire to constantly experiment and innovate, while also developing and using best-in-class skills and knowledge.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Flexible, capable of handling a variety of job responsibilities and shifting priorities.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities in both English and French, as well as the ability to communicate information to a diverse range of stakeholders across cultures.
- Possess professional maturity, cultural sensitivity, and absolute honesty, all of which embody the Foundation’s principles.
