Job Title: Director, Partnerships Hub

The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) is a non-profit group that helps governments with strategy, policy, and implementation through its policy work and advisory practice. As the Institute grows, partnerships are a smart way to make a bigger difference on a larger scale by bringing in expertise, resources, and technologies that will speed up economic and social development and make changes that will last.

Job Introduction

The Director, Partnerships Hub, is a senior leadership role at TBI. This person will build the culture, the team, and the systems that will help us reach our goals. The person in this role will be able to make sure that the whole of TBI is greater than the sum of its parts.

The Director will put together and lead a global team that has members in all of TBI’s geographic hubs and has the skills and experience to help our teams set up strategic partnerships. The Director and their team will help TBI’s business units manage and deliver partnerships in a way that is in line with TBI teams’ strategic priorities and partnerships. With the help of these partnerships, our teams will be able to go further and faster, and we will become the “go-to” organization for progressive leaders and governments who need help with policy, strategy, and tech as a horizontal.

The Director will work in an organization with a lot of different structures, so it will be important for them to be able to work with people from different structures and get things done together. For this job, you need to be a leader who works well with others and is driven by the success of the organization’s mission.

This job is part of TBI’s Strategy & Partnerships (S&P) Department and reports to the Executive Director, of Strategic Partnerships and Initiatives. Policy & Politics and Global Government Advisory are the other two business-critical departments that deal with the outside world.

Help with moving will be given to the person who gets the job if they need it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Partnerships Hub, which is made up of at least six high-performing people from all over the world.
  • Set up internal systems for TBI teams to set their partnership strategies, build pipelines, and develop and carry out highly impactful partnerships.
  • Create a simple and effective way to track how our partnership portfolio changes and how it affects TBI as a whole.
  • Create tools and materials for marketing partnerships to help teams
  • Make guides and tools for TBI teams so they can run their partnerships and grow them.
  • Help teams make strategic partnerships grow and change.
  • Host inside experts who know a lot about building coalitions, forming alliances, and running campaigns.
  • Work closely with TBI teams and partners to solve problems that come up during implementation and lead teams to solutions that will have a bigger impact.
  • Advise the Executive Director on the overall health and strategic nature of TBI’s portfolio of partnerships. Make suggestions about diversity, reach, and impact.
  • Set and deliver OKRs for each division every year.
  • Represent TBI at external events
  • Be a strong leader for the culture and values of TBI.
  • Manage your team well and help people grow.

Important ties within the company: S&P department heads, the Exec Director of Global Client Solutions and subject-matter directors, the Regional Directors and Country Directors of Global Advisory, the Executive Directors and Directors of Policy & Politics, key country teams, and the Legal department.

Person Specification

This is a senior leadership position that calls for an outstanding candidate who wants to gain more experience in a growing portfolio:

  • A lot of experience leading partnerships and/or managing high-level relationships and working with contracts.
  • Bachelor’s or postgraduate degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Shown that they can lead teams, preferably in more than one place.
  • Experience building and running internal systems in a streamlined and effective way
  • Strategic thinker who can question the status quo and come up with plans for achieving difficult goals
  • The ability to work in a business environment that is growing and changing quickly. Proven ability to manage a large number of projects and initiatives, delegating tasks and keeping track of how well they are done.
  • A history of making and keeping partnerships and alliances with many different kinds of organizations
  • A natural networker and organizer who can navigate a matrixed internal organization and handle many different relationships.
  • Experience with how partnerships work and the financial models that go with them. Can make sure the partnerships built work across the portfolio.
  • Proven leadership skills: able to set strategic direction, motivate teams to work together to achieve great goals, and not afraid to get their hands dirty to get things done.
  • You will have a history of delivering operationally with a positive impact. You will be focused on impact.
  • Excellent skills in writing and talking to people
  • A self-starter who has shown an entrepreneurial spirit. Willing to travel and eager to learn from colleagues around the world (10%–20%).
