POSITION: Portfolio Manager

Purpose

The business advisory support program aims to improve enterprise growth and sustainability by providing comprehensive financial management, strategic planning, grant pitch preparation, compliance support, capital raising assistance, and continuous monitoring and mentorship, ensuring businesses have the tools and guidance they need to achieve their short- and long-term goals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Review and update financial management processes for assigned businesses, including creating financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement).
  • Establish strong financial and accounting management procedures, such as developing financial models and assisting with the registration of an accounting company or software.
  • Conduct a SWOT analysis and evaluate business models to identify short-term (0-12 months) and medium-term (12–36 months) growth initiatives.
  • Assist businesses in estimating product unit prices and breakeven points.
  • Strengthen and align organizations’ value propositions, missions, and visions.
  • Help organizations improve their processes or operations.
  • Collaborate with GCIC officers to ensure that the Environmental and Social Safeguards recommendations are followed and that all appropriate technical, commercial, and operational certifications, registrations, and permissions are obtained.
  • Collaborate with GCIC staff to help design pitch decks and verify grant fund utilization is consistent with corporate growth strategies and regulatory standards.
  • Identify and connect businesses to suitable cash sources, such as grants, debt, and equity financing.
  • Conduct site visits to entrepreneurs as needed to better understand business procedures, track progress, and collect pertinent data.
  • Encourage entrepreneurs to participate in the GCIC’s value-added programs.
  • Provide broad mentorship, allowing businesses to share ideas and get expert advice on business difficulties and possibilities.
  • Support entrepreneurs in effectively scaling their businesses using GCIC interventions, including implementation sequencing and general mentoring.
  • Track the implementation of all deliverables to ensure that businesses move as planned, with an emphasis on short-term initiatives.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, economics, or a comparable discipline.
  • Advanced degrees (MBA, Master’s) are desired.
  • A minimum of five to seven years of experience in financial management, accounting, business consulting, or a similar profession.
  • Proven experience with SWOT analysis and strategic business planning.
  • Experience in financial modeling and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience in operational improvement methods and corporate scaling strategies.
  • Extensive expertise and experience working with start-ups, entrepreneurs, and social entrepreneurs.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication abilities. Strong presentation abilities require

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required for successful mentoring and teamwork.
  • Proficiency with financial applications and accounting tools.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements and certification procedures.

Additional requirements

  • Experience in grant applications and fund usage.
  • Able to travel for site visits as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to help businesses integrate their purpose, vision, and value proposition with growth goals.
