POSITION: Chief Mining Engineer

CNML is developing its core asset in Ghana’s Upper East Region with the strategic aim of creating a world-leading, highly lucrative, and responsible gold mining operation.

Job Description.

• Location: Mine site (Namdini / Bolgatanga)
• Mine Production is a section/unit under the Mining department.
• Job reports to: Mining Engineer with direct reporting. Senior geotechnical engineer, senior mine planning engineer, and senior drill and blast engineer.

Job Purpose

• Responsible for facilitating the optimal extraction of ore from open pit mining operations by providing mine planning and scheduling expertise to achieve medium to long term production and development targets and ensuring maximum return to the business in accordance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Plan, coordinate, and manage the contractor for mine production operational requirements such as drilling, blasting, loading, transporting, and project duties.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Mine Planning Accountabilities

• Directs ore resource modelling and draw control, which includes final pit designs, short and long-term mining sequences, haul road designs, protection berms, overburden disposal sites, volume estimates, and material grade determination.
• Long, medium, and short-term mining plans must be maintained to maximize ore reserve use, ensure the lowest feasible unit cost, and always include safety in their design. The mine design must be signed or stamped by the Chief Mine Engineer using his or her engineer’s seal.
• Coordinates activities and resources to provide realistic mine budgets and cost estimates based on site team feedback. Evaluate and meet the needs and timelines of external budget customers. Ensures that proper cost information and data are generated and provided on time so that the mine team can act as needed.
• Coordinates the project management process for the site, ensuring that an adequate business case is calculated and included in the mine’s overall business plan. May originate and/or lead individual projects.

Mine Production Accountabilities.

• Plan, manage, and oversee contractors on mine production and operating requirements such as drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and project duties.
• Assisting with borrow pit planning and mining throughout the building phase.
• Meet all safety and production criteria outlined in the company strategy.
• Assist the Mining Manager in ensuring that all Namdini employees and contractors comply with all regulatory and Ghana government regulations governing open pit mining in the operational region.

Generic Accountabilities

• Maintain effective communication at all levels of supervision and efficiently manage his or her team to ensure goals are fulfilled. This comprises technical and discipline management of his or her team, as well as coaching and mentoring in coordination with the training unit/consultants to accomplish both quality and quantity of production.
• Accountable for preparing and professionally presenting feasibility studies for new mining zones, modifications to methodology or equipment, new equipment purchases, and so on, as well as preparing Capital Acquisition proposals for top management. This includes submitting accurate and timely reports to internal and external stakeholders as needed. This includes working with geotechnical engineers and other technical experts to develop safe, optimal designs.
• Responsibilities may vary depending on the needs of the mine or project, as determined by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualification(s)

• Degree in mining engineering (or a related technological discipline).
• Mine Superintendent Certificate of Competency Experience
• Requirements include 10 years of experience in open pit mining and 5 years as a Chief Mine Engineer/Superintendent.

Knowledge

• Experience must involve constructing long and short-term open pit mine plans using computerized mine design systems.
• Requirements: At least a year of experience as a Production Superintendent and Project Management.

Skills

• Expertise with applicable mining software such as Datamine, SURPAC, Minsched, and Vulcan. Alastri, Deswik, AutoCAD, Whittle, etc.
