POSITION: External Relations Manager 

As an External Relations Manager, you’ll be in charge of creating and implementing strategies to manage the organization’s connections with external stakeholders such as clients, partners, vendors, regulatory agencies, and the community. Your job is critical in improving the organization’s reputation, cultivating strong relationships, and advancing its objectives through effective communication and engagement with external audiences.

Responsibilities:

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Develop and maintain connections with important external stakeholders, such as clients, partners, vendors, regulatory agencies, government officials, and community leaders.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration and partnerships to support the organization’s strategic goals and objectives.

PR and Brand Management:

  • Develop and implement public relations strategies to improve the organization’s reputation and market its brand to external audiences.
  • Create attractive public relations materials, such as news releases, articles, blog posts, and social media content, to convey key themes and highlight organizational successes.

Media Relations:

  • Serve as the principal point of contact for media queries, coordinating answers and conducting interviews with relevant representatives.
  • Develop relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers to ensure positive media coverage and manage the organization’s media presence.

Government and Regulatory Affairs:

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments that may have an impact on the organization’s operations, and provide top management with insights and recommendations.
  • Engage with government authorities and regulatory bodies to represent the organization’s interests and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Community relations and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR):

  • Create and implement community involvement and CSR activities to demonstrate the organization’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainable practices.
  • Identify ways to improve the organization’s reputation through corporate giving, volunteerism, and community relationships.

Crisis Management

  • Create and implement crisis communication plans and practices in order to successfully manage and mitigate reputational risks during emergencies or unfortunate events.
  • Serve as the organization’s spokesperson, communicating with stakeholders and the media in a timely and transparent manner during emergencies.

Reporting and analysis:

  • Track and analyze external relations activities and outcomes to determine the efficacy of plans and initiatives.
  • Prepare regular reports and updates to senior management on external relations initiatives, successes, and difficulties.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, business administration, or a closely related subject. An advanced degree or professional certification is beneficial.
  • Proven expertise in external relations, public relations, or comparable sectors, with a track record of success in developing and sustaining connections with external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and vocal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport and trust with a wide range of stakeholders, such as clients, partners, media professionals, and government officials.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving talents, with a results-oriented mindset and an emphasis on meeting organizational goals.
  • Proficiency with digital communication tools and platforms such as social media, content management systems, and email marketing software.
  • Experience with crisis management, media relations, government affairs, and/or community outreach.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while still collaborating in a team setting.
  • The ability to adjust to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Commitment to ethical standards and best practices for external contacts and stakeholder engagement.
