POSITION: Coordinator, Ghana Survivor Network

Who We Are:

For almost 25 years, the International Justice Mission (IJM) has been at the forefront of efforts to protect vulnerable people from violence by strengthening the Justice System response. The Ghana office collaborates with local governments to rescue victims of trafficking, bring criminals to justice, restore survivors to safety and strength, and assist law enforcement in creating a secure future that lasts.

The Need

As we expand our global impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are looking for a Coordinator, Ghana Survivor Network, for a one-year fixed-term contract who will work closely with the Senior Lead, Global Survivor Network (GSN), IJM Ghana, to empower survivors to advocate for trafficking issues in communities, churches, and government to bring about long-term change and protection for those at risk of trafficking.

The Coordinator of GSN reports directly to the National Director of Advocacy and Partnerships. This function is in charge of developing strategies for identifying, training, and mentoring survivors to become advocates, as well as influencing national and regional human trafficking policy. Also, this is a fixed-term, on-site role that requires periodic travel to various places across the country.

This position is headquartered in Accra, Ghana, reports to the National Director, Advocacy and Partnerships, and is only open to candidates with the right to work in Ghana.

Responsibilities

  • Support national and regional efforts to establish GSN chapters, empower and train survivors, and promote policies to ensure GSN’s viability and longevity;
  • Identify and recruit survivors to join GSN’s national chapters, empowering them to be advocates and movement leaders;
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with community and national organizations, local and national leaders, and government stakeholders, mobilizing them to take action on GSN advocacy and implementation issues.
  • Establish and maintain ties with survivors’ guardians, as needed.
  • Provide feedback to direct reports and management on survivor experiences in GSN and aid in strengthening the program’s overall impact.
  • Support the development of a training curriculum for GSN members.
  • Identify and offer training and mentorship opportunities to GSN members.
  • Serve as a resource person for training on GSN-related topics;
  • Ensure accurate documentation and record keeping for all associated papers;
  • Ensure adequate monitoring and assessment of the GSN program by establishing feedback loops with GSN members and other stakeholders;
  • Work closely with the team to define yearly dashboard goals and prepare necessary national, regional, and global reports.
  • Collaborate with the Communications and Media Coordinator to identify storytelling opportunities.
  • Help discover speaking engagements and advocacy opportunities for GSN members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related degree;
  • Minimum three (3) years of hands-on social work experience, preferably in a non-profit organization;
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working directly with survivors in an advocacy role.
  • Direct experience in public speaking, activism, and raising awareness about crucial human rights problems; and
  • A thorough understanding or familiarity with IJM’s casework and philosophy of transformation.
