POSITION: Credit Officer Trainee – Group Lending

Job Description
Duty stations include Kasoa, Ofaakor, and Ablekuma in the Greater-Accra Region, and Swedru, Mankessim, Assin Fosu, and Twifo Praso in the Central Region.
PURPOSE
The Credit Officer Trainee – GL will conduct underwriting on new and current loans to determine prospective clients’ financial situations and repayment capacity, as well as the risks connected with the transactions.
Major Responsibilities
Formation of Small and Large Groups:
- Discuss with the identified target members in small groups.
- Formation of small groups, each consisting of five people.
- Choose group leaders for every small group.
- Form a large group management committee.
- Provide a two-week orientation for large groups.
- Collect member admission money from members according to BGSL practices.
- Use the DFA device to record group members’ admission data.
- Fix the meeting date, time, and site.
- Create a group with a minimum of 15 members for MF 10 members for Agri-Finance, and a maximum of 30 members for MF and 20 for Agri Finance.
- Arrange the entrance of new members.
Meeting related tasks.
- Conduct two to three group sessions each day.
- Timetable for Meetings: First meeting at 8:30 a.m., second meeting at 9:30 a.m. Third meeting at 10:30 a.m. (this could be amended depending on office hours)
- Arrive at the meeting venue 15 minutes before the group meeting begins.
- Prepare the floor mat before the meeting begins.
- Arrange the group members in a U-shape based on tiny groups.
- Take attendance.
- Discuss general issues about loans and any other topics.
- Collect weekly installment deposits from small group leaders through the relevant cashiers and take signatures on the DFA device.
- After completing the group sessions, return to the office around 1.30 pm.
- Where the group is near the office, the credit officer shall deposit the money obtained to the office before transferring to the next group (to reduce robbery risk).
- Staff should observe safety and security guidelines when transporting money.
Loan proposal and disbursement related.
- Ensure that members’ loan offers are discussed during group meetings.
- Acceptance of loan proposal through verbal votes in front of the group members.
- The credit officer will enter all loan data, such as loan applications and guarantors from DP Notes, into the digital system.
- Fix a distribution date after confirming the loan application and notify the member appropriately.
- Be present on payout day to participate in the disbursement process.
Loan recovery-related
- Credit officers must attend weekly, biweekly, or monthly group meetings to guarantee that loan installments are fully recovered.
- Deposit collected funds into Branch Accounts and verify that the amount is written and signed off in the DCR.
- If an installment is missed during the morning group meeting, commence collection in the afternoon through a house visit by borrowers or small group leaders.
- Collect late and NIBL installments throughout the afternoon, along with current overdue collections.
- Initiate loan recovery for written-off clients, should they desire to return to BRAC as clients.
Miscellaneous
- Be present at the weekly staff meeting.
- Create daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
- Follow BRAC’s Human Resource Policies and Procedures.
- Effectively carry out additional obligations assigned by top management.
- Always follow the Code of Conduct for Microfinance Staff and treat clients with respect.
- Strive to deliver the highest quality service to clients, on the field, and in the branch office.
- Listen intently to the client’s complaints, concerns, and ideas and take necessary action.
Safeguarding responsibilities:
- Implement the safeguarding policy to foster a culture of safety at all levels of the program. Serve as a primary source of assistance, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding in order to create a safe workplace.
- Responsible for ensuring that team members receive adequate training, support, and access to resources about issues detected and addressed under the safeguarding policy and procedure.
- Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in the event of a reportable occurrence, and encourage others to do the same.
Required Skill or Experience
EXPERIENCE (Including Sector/Industry)
- Cash and bank transactions, cash requisitions, cash certificates, and bank reconciliation reports
- Knowledge of the applications Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience: A minimum of one year of experience working in a microfinance or financial institution.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
- Computer expertise of MS World, MS Excel, and the Internet
- Effective communication abilities.
- Writing and reporting skills in English.
- Capable of working both remotely and in-person with a small team of stakeholders, regardless of time zone or location.
- Ability to work in unclear situations with little organization.
- Fluency in English is essential (spoken, reading, and writing).

- SHS/Diploma/HND/Degree
