POSITION: Communications Specialist

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is a public-benefit federal enterprise that operates in over 100 countries worldwide. Project Brief:

The new program “Strengthening the Ghanaian Pharmaceutical Sector with a Focus on Local Vaccine Production” takes a holistic approach to promoting the pharmaceutical private sector with a special focus on vaccine production: (i) strengthening the coordination of relevant public and private sector actors, particularly the national regulatory authority, (ii) training of specialists for the private sector and science, (iii) promoting research and development, (iv)

Scope of Role:

  • As a communications specialist, you will be in charge of the program’s external and internal communications to effectively convey activities and results to various target audiences while also encouraging internal collaboration.
  • In your role, you create and implement effective and creative communication and visibility strategies, concepts, products, and activity formats. This necessitates collaboration with your line manager, other team members, and partner organizations.

Tasks:

  • Developing and implementing effective external and internal communication strategies, plans, and activities with an emphasis on outcomes and success stories.
  • Creating and distributing external communication materials (e.g. website, factsheets, presentations, brochures, flyers, newsletters, photo database, videos, infographics, banners, pull-ups, social media posts) under GIZ and donor (BMZ/EU) requirements.
  • Organizing public events and VIP visits, as well as managing relations with local media (press releases, conferences, and media coverage monitoring).
  • Advising and building capacity in technical and strategic communications for program management, team members, and partner institutions.
  • Facilitating internal communication and knowledge exchange within the program team, as well as contributing to GIZ Ghana and global communication channels.
  • Ensure compliance with GIZ rules and procedures, procurement, monitoring, and quality control of suppliers and service providers, close coordination with team members and partner institutions, and liaison with other GIZ projects, clusters, countries, and head offices. Consider cross-cutting topics.

Qualifications & Experience

  • University degree in communication, journalism, or public relations
  • 3 years of professional experience in communication (media and PR, journalism, internal communications, lobbying, etc.) and familiarity with Ghana’s media landscape, ideally with strategic communication regarding development projects
  • Ability to communicate visually and experience with audiovisual and media production.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and copywriting skills (articles, press releases, etc.), as well as the ability to grasp and convey complex concepts into simple English for broader audiences.
  • Experienced in project and event management, including preparation, budgeting, and logistics. Proficient with ITC technologies such as MS Office, desktop publishing, picture editing, and graphics applications.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential, and knowledge of German is advantageous.
  • This position requires a dynamic, agile personality with integrity, attention to detail, good diplomatic and communication skills, and a willingness to learn.
  • It also requires the ability to operate in a varied team while remaining autonomous and results-oriented, as well as to multitask, prioritize, and work under pressure.
