PROGRAMME AND ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTIONS
The GIZ public-private partnership programme (develoPPP) was established by the German government (BMZ) as a way to support and foster the involvement of the private sector in developing countries and emerging economies GIZ has launched a public-private partnership programme with a consortium of private fims – sourcing company Ethical Apparel Africa, digital pattern company Gerber, interlining supplier Freudenberg and needle supplier Graz Beckert – focused on the emerging apparel industry in West Africa. The primary objective of the programme is to strengthen up to 15 amal and medium-sized (SMEs) clothing manutacturers for the export market in order to create qualified and socially responsible employment.
This programme focuses on classroom-based and in-factory Technical Vocational Training to build a pipeline of skilled local talent for the growing industry that will address a key barrier to competitiveness and accelerate industry growth and job creation in apparel factories in West Africa. Classroom based training in putte development and mechanics will be delivered at local university Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC). In addition the Centre will provide services to local SMEs that require digital patterns and lay plans but do not have the equipment to produce in house
The Ghana Apparel Training Association (GATA) is the non profit, capacity building arm of Sourcing Company Ethical Apparel Africa. GATA is responsible for the training design and curriculum development plus training delivery through a team at international experts. The project will run until July 2022 through GIZ and then will be directly managed by ATTC.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We have a great opportunity for an experienced and dynamic Pattern Expert to join our team and provide quality pattern services to garment factories based in Ghana
This is the perfect role for someone willing to broaden and challenge their expertise by contributing to the development of the apparel industry in West Africa and shaping the path of the next frontier
The Pattern Service Provider will report to the Pattern Trainer based in Accra and will have the following main responsibilities
PATTERN SERVICES
Develop a pricing structure for dient’s to have as a base for provision of services Understand clients’ specific needs based on either early design concepts or toch packs
Take garment measurements and complete an estimate fabric consumption for sample size pattern
Complete pattems from scratch in accordance with client’s requirements Adapt existing patterns to client’s feedback and create new digitized pattems
Take clients base patterns and grade them in Gerber software
Make marker planning (lay planning) and make marker
Actively communicate with clients and update them on an ongoing basis
Convert other pattern software into Gerber softwares
File system and keep proper records of pattem services
In close relationship with the Training Project Manager, complete reports against specific service level metrics
Ensure the pattern service centre is fully stocked with required consumables to deliver the services
Ensure the pattern service centre operates profitably
PATTERN TRAINING
• Support the Pattern Trainer to deliver both manual and digital patter training to Ghana factories in line with the course curriculum
• Work together to continually update the course based on student feedback
QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
At least 5 years working experience as garment pattern maker
In-depth knowledge of pattern making (manual and digital strong preference for knowledge experience working in Gerber specifically
• Understanding and knowledge of cutting stitching sampling processes
• Excellent communication skills and ability to understand clients’ needs
• Deep understanding of customer markets and experience of working with international brands
• Previous workingliving experience in a developing country, preferably in Africa Fluency in English
