About the Role
Zipline creates and operates delivery drone fleets to expedite the delivery of crucial and life-saving supplies to their destinations. To accomplish this, our software team is developing long-term, scalable solutions for rapid expansion, while also enabling our world-class distribution centers to service our clients as quickly as possible. As a leader, you will be in charge of charting the route for your team, developing roadmaps with your customers, and expanding the influence of those you serve.
We are searching for an engineering lead who is eager to head a small but powerful team of software engineers in charge of our African Market Customer Platforms. These are the foundational tools that our operations team employs to manage our customers and internal operations. The solutions serve as both a CRM and an ERP, ensuring that order fulfillment status and customer interactions are properly maintained, as well as internal inventory and supply chain health.
You will work on apps that enable us to manage an ever-increasing number of clients and locations, as well as an ever-expanding collection of use cases. Our ideal candidate excels in startup environments, is comfortable wearing multiple hats, and can collaborate with other engineers on the team to achieve great results.
What will you do in this role?
Forward-Looking Technical Leadership
- Develop and articulate a strategic, extendable, and scalable technology plan that matches the business objectives.
- Establish clear, quantifiable goals, responsibilities, and performance requirements for individuals and teams.
- Be responsible for the overall performance and outcomes of your engineering team.
- Demonstrate experience in software engineering best practices and help the team to apply them.
Inspirational Team Building
- Recruit and retain top engineering talent to create a productive, diverse, and engaged workforce.
- Promote a collaborative and inclusive team culture by fostering open communication, teamwork, and mutual respect.
Coach, mentor, and professionally grow your team!
- Lead software engineering teams in African countries. Zipline specializes in results-oriented project management.
- Set defined targets, milestones, and efficiently manage resources to reach corporate goals.
- Adapt to changing priorities and effectively manage project obstacles, creating and adjusting expectations as needed.
- Successfully deliver projects on time while maintaining quality standards.
- Work with the product management team on special initiatives.
Developer Experience Champion
- Develop a culture of constant improvement and innovation to maximize efficiency and production.
- Use software development processes and best practices to provide high-quality products.
- Successfully deploy code while assuring quality, functionality, and timely software delivery.
What will you bring?
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
- 2+ years as an Engineering Manager or similar leadership position, directly managing teams of 3+ engineers in a fast-paced environment.
- Practical technical leadership with a strong foundation in software engineering.
- Understanding of backend or full stack development and microservice design.
- A track record of developing and directing development teams focused on cloud applications.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a varied group.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and senior leadership.
- Prior expertise with ERP or CRM systems is preferred.
- Experience working with international collaborations.
