POSITION: ICD Consultant
Jhpiego is seeking an ICD Consultant to partner with the Ghana Health Service’s Institutional Care Division. If you are a fellow in public health or infectious disease, familiar with priority zoonotic disease management, and skilled in curriculum development and training delivery, this consultancy offers the opportunity to review and update disease specific case management guidelines, train frontline clinicians, and strengthen outbreak response across four regions.

For over 40 years, we have worked to prevent needless deaths of women and families across more than 155 countries. In Ghana, we provide technical support to the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service across many technical areas. For this consultancy, we are collaborating with the Institutional Care Division to strengthen case management for Mpox and other priority zoonotic diseases. Your work will directly improve how clinicians diagnose, treat, and manage outbreaks.
Your Mission
You will support the development, review, and updating of disease specific case management guidelines, protocols, and training modules as determined by GHS. Leading a validation exercise ensures stakeholder buy in. You will also develop standardized, user friendly training modules and PowerPoint slides for GHS training use. Next, you will conduct a Trainer of Trainers for doctors, pharmacists, medical laboratory scientists, nurses, and public health officers across Greater Accra, Western, Western North, and Volta Regions. Finally, you will support dissemination of the guidelines and provide recommendations for continuous professional development and mentorship programs.
Key Deliverables
- Training curriculum and materials ready for GHS use.
- Completed workshop delivery across four regions.
- At least 15 manuscripts developed and ready for journal submission.
- A final consultancy report documenting all activities and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Your role spans guideline development, module creation, training delivery, assessment, dissemination, and mentorship. Here is what you will tackle:
Guideline & Module Development
- You will support the development, review, and updating of disease specific case management guidelines for Mpox and other priority zoonotic diseases.
- Leading a validation of the disease specific case management guidelines ensures accuracy and practicality.
- Developing standardized, user friendly training modules and PowerPoint slides for GHS training use.
Training & Assessment
- You will conduct a Trainer of Trainers for doctors, pharmacists, medical laboratory scientists, nurses, and public health officers across Greater Accra, Western, Western North, and Volta Regions.
- Developing assessment tools to evaluate participant competency ensures training effectiveness.
Dissemination & Mentorship
- You will support the dissemination of disease specific case management guidelines to relevant stakeholders.
- Providing recommendations for continuous professional development and mentorship programs sustains capacity beyond the consultancy.
- Offering post training virtual mentorship for up to six weeks supports participants as they complete drafts initiated during training.
Reporting & Quality
- You will ensure outputs meet publication and partner dissemination standards.
- Providing regular progress reports at key milestones keeps stakeholders informed.
- Documenting all meeting proceedings for sharing with stakeholders.
What You Bring to the Role
Professional Background
- A medical doctor, pharmacist, nurse, or laboratory scientist with training in infectious disease, global health security, and public health.
- A fellow in public health, infectious disease, or equivalent qualification.
- Over five years of working experience managing infectious diseases in Ghana’s public and clinical settings.
- Familiarity with managing priority zoonotic diseases among frontline clinicians who handle outbreaks in Ghana.
- Expertise in Infection Prevention and Control gives you an added advantage.
Health Systems & Collaboration
- Familiarity with Ghana health systems and reporting structures, plus demonstrated ability to collaborate with government level officials to strengthen program implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate with a wide range of local and international partner organizations.
Skills & Personal Attributes
- Excellent facilitation, team building, and coordination skills.
- Excellent writing and communications skills, including demonstrated technical writing skills for publication.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse international teams and a willingness to learn and empower others.
- Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines, and intense pressure to perform.
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently to implementing regions and health facilities.
Reporting & Coordination
You will report to the Project Lead and work closely with the Ghana Health Service Institutional Care Division and Jhpiego. Funding for the consultancy falls within Jhpiego’s consideration.
Activity Days Breakdown
- Support guideline development, review, and updating across disease areas: 10 days
- Lead validation, develop training modules, conduct ToT across four regions, develop assessment tools: (integrated into above)
- Support dissemination and provide CPD recommendations: 2 days
- Post training virtual mentorship up to 6 weeks
