POSITION: Programme Assistant

Organizational Context

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, comprising 191-member National Societies (NSs). The IFRC Abuja Country Cluster Delegation supports National Societies in Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, and Togo in addressing crises such as climate change and food insecurity. The IFRC is implementing the Saving Lives and Livelihoods (SLL) initiative Phase II in Northern Ghana in partnership with Africa CDC and Mastercard Foundation, focusing on strengthening COVID-19 vaccination and primary care systems over a 10-month period.

Job Purpose

The Programme Assistant will support the Senior Programme Officer in executing field activities for the SLL initiative, focusing on promoting vaccine intake among adults. Responsibilities include training Community Health Volunteers, coordinating with health facilities and implementing partners, and ensuring the use of approved Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) approaches. The role requires collaboration with health authorities and partners to ensure effective program implementation, compliance, and reporting throughout the 8-month project duration.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Reporting to the Senior Programme Officer, the Programme Assistant will:
  • Offer technical, organizational, and administrative assistance for the prompt and efficient execution of the duties and responsibilities associated with the project plans and priorities.
  • Aid in the monitoring of programme execution in the operational area.
  • Facilitate strong collaboration with stakeholders and partners to guarantee effective and suitable connections between the SLL program team and the Community Health Volunteers.
  • Deliver the field-level information regarding the execution of the SLL project.

Task Responsibilities and Duties (continued)

The Programme Assistant has the duty of:

Administrative Assistance: 

  • Responsible for delivering professional administrative knowledge and assistance.
  • Assist the Senior Officer in the coordination of both internal and external meetings: organizing and scheduling events, as well as preparing and sending out invitations and meeting requests.
  • Participate in meetings with partners at the facility level and confirm that field plans and reports are revised promptly.
  • Maintain a log of IFRC property and equipment at the field office.

Program & Reporting: 

  • Provide training for Community Health Volunteers in partnership with the Senior Programme Officer.
  • Create plans for implementation at the field level.
  • Oversee project execution quality in the field and prepare weekly and monthly reports.
  • Work together and engage with staff from MoH health facilities and representatives from IP.
  • Assess RCCE instruments together with the Ministry of Health and pertinent stakeholders.
  • Carry out any additional duties assigned by the Line or Technical Manager.

Education

  • Applicable university degree in Community Development, Public Health, Social Sciences, or other related areas.

Experience 

  • At least 2 years of experience in community development, public health, or projects related to social sciences.
  • Experience collaborating with global non-profit organizations
  • Skills in preparing reports, case studies, and monitoring & evaluation.
  • Fundamental skills instruction in the healthcare or community sector.
