German Universities with Free Tuition and Scholarships For International Students
Germany is currently a popular destination for international students from other countries. German universities provide programs that are widely known for a significantly lower price than universities in the UK, USA, or Australia. A significant number of scholarships are also easily accessible, allowing foreign students to enroll at German colleges for free.
Germany’s Public Universities and Colleges
Beginning in October 2014, all German universities will offer free undergraduate tuition. Universities may impose administrative fees (about 50 euros) or a contribution for the semester in different Federal States. Check this page for the most recent details on tuition costs in the various federal states of Germany.
Future changes to this tuition fee system are possible. For example, Baden-Württemberg, a federal state, charges non-EU citizens enrolled in Bachelor’s, Master’s, Diploma, and state examination degree programs a semester tuition fee of €1,500.
In contrast to undergraduate programs, the majority of master’s or doctoral programs in Germany are fee-based. There are additional costs for postgraduate study in addition to the enrollment and confirmation fees. Fortunately, Germany offers a number of scholarships for master’s and PhD studies.
1. Deutschlandstipendium National Scholarship Program of Germany
Motivated, accomplished students from all over the world can get financial and non-material support from the Deutschlandstipendium program. The Germany Scholarship offers outstanding students financial aid at all participating German universities. Scholarships are awarded without taking the applicant’s nationality or their own or their parent’s income into account.
The scholarship can last up to the length of the typical study period and has a monthly value of 300 euros, but it must cease after two semesters. See the interactive map of Germany at this link to find out which universities in Germany offer the Germany Scholarship.
2 . DAAD Scholarship Programs
Fostering international academic ties, particularly through the exchange of academics, researchers, and students, is the responsibility of the DAAD, a partnership of German higher education institutions.
The DAAD scholarship database offers funding and scholarship opportunities for foreign students, graduate students, and scientists looking for funding for their studies, research, or teaching assignments in Germany. A thorough list of all DAAD scholarships as well as a number of different programs provided by several colleges are both included in the database.
The most well-known DAAD scholarship program for students from underdeveloped countries is the DAAD Scholarships for Development-related Postgraduate Courses. Another well-known example is the DAAD Scholarships in Public Policy and Good Governance.
3 . Programs for German Foundation Scholarships
Numerous political and religious organizations in Germany provide scholarships to international students with a range of backgrounds, interests, and skills. Stipendiumplus.de provides a list of them.
Similar to the Heinrich Boll Foundation and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung in Germany, religious foundations like the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and KAAD fund scholarships.
