POSITION: Community Relations Manager
Job Purpose
The Community Relations Manager is tasked with creating and executing strategies to foster and sustain beneficial connections between the company and the communities affected by its activities. A primary emphasis of this position is overseeing the firm’s network of Community Liaisons (CLOs) and incorporating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies into community involvement activities. The position seeks to establish enduring community partnerships, enhance transparency, and aid the organization’s ESG objectives while managing intricate social and political situations.
DUTIES:
Community Engagement:
- Act as the main point of contact among the company, its Community Liaisons (CLOs), and the local businesses, residents, and community leaders.
- Collaborate closely with CLOs to obtain insights and details on project goals, community requirements, and social issues.
- Collaborate closely with CLOs to incorporate ESG factors into community engagement activities and guarantee that volunteer and community programs align with the organization’s sustainability objectives.
- Cultivate and uphold robust connections with community members, local leaders, and organizations, emphasizing the development of sustainable and ethical collaborations.
- Recognize and launch chances for community development initiatives and collaborations that are consistent with the company’s business goals and ESG values.
- Work together with CLOs and various stakeholders to strategize, finance, and execute initiatives like infrastructure enhancements, educational initiatives, and economic growth.
- Assess and communicate the effects of initiatives, guaranteeing that the community experiences concrete advantages from the organization’s contributions.
Community and Public Engagement:
- Create and implement communication plans that emphasize the company’s dedication and contributions to community development.
- Manage replies to questions, complaints, and suggestions.
- Collaborate with the External Relations & Communications group to develop content for press announcements, newsletters, and social media, highlighting the company’s projects.
- Work together with different departments to guarantee that current and future projects are conveyed clearly to the community.
Government and Regulatory Engagement:
- Foster and uphold connections with government representatives, regulatory agencies, and other organizations to guarantee that the company’s activities align with local, regional, and national ESG criteria.
- Keep updated on regulatory modifications that could impact community involvement or the company’s ESG efforts, making certain that the company’s initiatives adhere to applicable regulations and guidelines.
Crisis Control:
- Create and execute crisis communication plans in partnership with CLOs, especially for emergencies or situations that could affect the community or the organization’s image.
- Manage community reactions in times of crisis, guaranteeing that the company’s actions are clear, consistent with ESG principles, and responsive to the worries of local stakeholders.
Reports and Documentation:
- Keep precise and current databases regarding community stakeholders, including traditional leaders, governmental bodies, and other pertinent entities.
- Supervise the creation, examination, and assessment of community relations documents, making certain they comply with legal obligations and the company’s reporting criteria (e.g., LVD reports, WRC reports, Pipeline Survey reports).
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Oversee the preparation of the monthly budget.
- Create and oversee all budget components, encompassing expense management and spending predictions.
- Make sure the budget aligns with the planned activities of the department.
ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Oversee the team to accomplish designated projects on time and within financial limits.
- Create and execute essential strategies to promote adaptable work methods and strengthen team cohesion.
- Conduct performance evaluations and development strategies (such as training) with junior staff members.
- Establish a training and development initiative for employees that aligns with the organization’s technical and business requirements.
- Arrange the rotation schedule (working and off hours) for junior staff members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Development Studies, or a comparable discipline.
- A master’s degree in a relevant field is required.
- Experience in multicultural settings is required.
- Proficiency in Twi is essential. Proficiency in additional local languages (such as Ga, Ewe, Fante) is advantageous.
- Certifications in ESG are advantageous.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
- At least 10+ years of experience in community relations, ideally within the Oil & Gas sector.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Understanding of community dynamics, needs evaluations, and stakeholder analysis.
- Experience in coordinating public forums, volunteer initiatives, and educational activities
- Comprehension of CSR principles and their connection with community initiatives.
- Understanding of municipal governance functions and compliance frameworks.
