POSITION: Branch Manager

BRAC Ghana Savings and Loans Ltd (BGSL) is a socially responsible for-profit entity that involves individuals, particularly women, in sustainable economic and income-generating projects in Ghana. Our goal is to responsibly offer a variety of financial services to individuals at the base of the pyramid. BGSL is a division of BRAC International Holdings B.V (BIHBV), functioning in seven nations throughout Africa and Asia.
Position Summary
Work location: Kasoa
The Branch Manager will oversee the efficient management of records, as well as cash and bank transactions at the branch.
KEY DUTIES
Group related:
- Organize the acceptance of members into groups following the initial evaluation of the survey list of potential microfinance program borrowers.
- Proclaim the official establishment of the group via an orientation program.
- Permit 15-30 prospective borrowers for membership within each group.
- Make certain that daily payment collections are conducted as per the collection timetable.
- Conduct a minimum of two group meetings daily and balance the passbook.
- After 6 months, all members’ passbooks must be aligned with the collection sheet.
Target Plan related:
- Formulate an annual target plan for the branch at the start of the year (including groups, members, borrowers’ disbursement, overdue accounts, etc.).
- Create an annual target plan divided into monthly segments for credit officers.
- Supervise the activities in line with the objective plans.
Accounts related;
- Generate weekly cash requests for loan distribution and other expenses.
- Acquire funds from the bank for financial spending based on daily requests.
- Review and endorse the cash ledger, bank ledger, DCR, cashbook, cash certificate, and all bill vouchers upon verification at the close of the day.
- Document any discrepancies identified in cash handling.
Administrative;
- Optimize employee leave, transfers, etc.
- Implement required measures to safeguard DCR, cash ledger, crucial loan documents, circulars, monthly meeting minutes, bill vouchers, collection sheets, passbooks, certificates, attendance logs, leave application forms, leave registers, movement logs, etc.
- Ensure the office campus, furniture, stationery, and other fixed assets are tidy and well-maintained.
- Establish a supportive atmosphere for all employees working in the office.
- Foster improved connections with local authorities.
- Guarantee an overarching supervisory function for all program/project transitions and personnel in the branch.
- Provide improved and faster service to external stakeholders (e.g., neighbours, government, other organizations, etc.)
- Ensure staff attendance in the office according to BGSL’s guidelines.
Staff development:
- Hold a one-hour staff meeting every Friday to discuss targets, accomplishments, and more.
- Recognize underperforming and non-performing Credit Officers along with high achievers and provide them with appropriate guidance.
- Hear the difficulties faced by employees and assist in addressing them.
- Enhance employees’ abilities through guidance, support, and advice.
Client satisfaction and outcome management related:
- Ensure that COs and other MF personnel comply with the conduct guidelines for Microfinance employees.
- Aim to deliver the highest quality service to customers, both in the field and at the branch office.
- Carefully address the client’s complaints, concerns, and opinions while taking suitable actions.
- Examine the client’s poverty profile and geographic focus to verify that client targeting aligns with BRAC’s objectives.
- Periodically assess client-level outcomes/data and suggest action plans.
Reporting
- Create daily, weekly, and monthly reports needed by management on schedule.
- Examine monthly trends and daily performance reports of the Credit Officers.
- Distribute monitoring and audit reports promptly.
- Keep and refresh the risk register for submission to the area manager.
- Guarantee fair allocation of 12–15 groups for each Credit Officer for MF and 15 groups for the AGF initiative.
Required Skills or Experience
EXPERIENCE (Covering sector/industry)
- Monetary and Banking dealings.
- Creation of cash requests, cash certificates, and bank reconciliation documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel applications.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a comparable position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Skilled in MS Word, MS Excel, and online navigation
- Proficient communication abilities; Writing and reporting competencies in English
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION
- Degree Concentration / Major: A bachelor’s degree focusing on Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Accounting, or any comparable program. Business Management, Financial Services, Bookkeeping, etc.
