The African Forum for Research and Education in Health (AFREhealth) is an interdisciplinary health professions organization that works with educational institutions, Ministries of Health, and other stakeholders to improve the quality of health care in Africa through research, education, and capacity building with a focus on health workforce development and interprofessional collaboration.
It is formed by individuals, universities, institutions, and networks from all the geographic and linguistic regions of Africa namely Anglophone, Francophone, Lusophone, and Arabophone.

- Position Title: Grants Manager
- Period of Performance: Two (2) years with the option of extension based on performance and availability of funding

Job Summary Of The Position
The Grants Manager will be responsible for the administration and implementation of grants. S/He will also be responsible for identifying funding opportunities that will be of interest to AFREhealth.
Tasks:
- To begin with, awarding and administering grants, cooperative agreements, or other related instruments.
- Secondly, designing, developing, implementing, and interpreting grants management policies, procedures, and practices
- Thirdly, providing training, technical assistance, oversight, ethics advice, expertise, and consultation to program officials, awardees, review panels, applicants, and recipients as needed
- Also, serving as a liaison between the funder and awardee to clarify, interpret and resolve issues and ensure compliance with funder regulations.
- Moreover, announcing programs and soliciting applications or proposals for funding under assistance awards.
- Overseeing, reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating grant applications, work plans, and budgets.
- Negotiating terms and conditions of awards.
- Conducting pre and post-award reviews and analyses to identify management, financial and administrative issues.
- Performing final review of completed awards, making appropriate adjustments or disallowances, and processing close-outs.
- Identify new business opportunities/grants and increase organizational revenue.
- Participate in and/or coordinate proposal writing as needed by coordinating teams of experts within the AFREhealth network to respond to opportunities.
- Ensure AFREhealth registration with the relevant sites/platforms to receive updates on funding opportunities.
- Oversee invoicing, accounting, and reporting functions to ensure successful execution of grant process.
- Develop a database of grant funding opportunities.
Required Qualification
- A minimum a Master’s degree in a related field (i.e. public health, health care management, international development, business administration, public policy, humanities, health economics, or equivalent experience in business development).
- At least four (4) years of related experience is required in the successful administration of grants.
- Preference for individuals with experience in the health sector.
- Experience in developing and/or reviewing proposals, work plans, and budgets.
- Experience in working with grant management software
- Excellent project management skills with experience in managing and supervising administrative projects
- Experience in managing grants from U.S. Government, UK Government aid, Foundations, and other donor funding agencies.
Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and produce quality results on time with attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to manage complex processes and team relationships to ensure effective collaboration by various contributors to the process, including contributors from multiple offices/units and at all levels of the organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Proficiency in French, Portuguese, or Arabic is an added advantage.
- Demonstrated good judgment and ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously and work proactively
