POSITION: Nature Based Solutions and Climate Action Officer

Job Purpose:
The Nature-Based Solutions and Climate Action Officer will work in Ghana to help with various programs. This person will be a leader in global discussions about nature-based solutions (NbS) and climate change. They will coordinate efforts and build partnerships with others, both inside and outside the Red Cross and Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement.
The officer will provide support to include nature-based solutions in plans to reduce disaster risks and will help create tools and apply global policies at local levels. They will collaborate closely with different teams within the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and work alongside the Climate Change Coordinator and Senior Officer for nature-based solutions.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide quality advice and resources for effective programming.
- Identify the needs and practices of National Societies (NS) regarding nature-based solutions.
- Offer support for new NbS programs and projects within the IFRC network.
- Help develop proposals and strengthen relationships with donors for joint NbS projects.
- Advise on integrating NbS into country plans and emergency operations.
- Identify tools and information needed for IFRC and NS, focusing on eco-friendly disaster risk reduction.
- Support Regional Offices with project planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Develop training activities and materials for National Societies.
- Ensure good policies and representation for nature-based solutions within IFRC and RCRC.
- Track and map National Societies working on nature-based solutions.
- Support senior management in their representation and advocacy efforts.
- Raise awareness of NbS among National Societies and promote its use in their work.
- Help create communication campaigns on NbS topics.
Partnership and Networking Duties:
- Build relationships with National Societies and external partners, including governments and NGOs, for joint NbS projects.
- Represent IFRC in important partnerships and discussions about environment and disaster risk reduction.
- Stay updated on new trends and best practices in the field.
Financial and Project Management Duties:
- Manage project finances and ensure activities meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Support planning and reporting for project activities.
- Provide updates on project progress and risks.
Education and Experience:
- University degree in a relevant field like natural resource management, climate change, or environmental science. A master’s degree is preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience in disaster risk reduction, climate change, or related areas.
- Experience working with various stakeholders and in project management.
- Preferred experience with carbon credit projects and international organizations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Languages:
- Strong understanding of environmental sustainability and climate action.
- Ability to organize and lead new programs.
- Good presentation and facilitation skills.
- Excellent project management abilities.
- Strong networking and communication skills.
- Fluent in spoken and written English; good knowledge of French is preferred.
