Position: Food Systems Advisor
FHI 360 is a nonprofit organization that aims to improve lives through local solutions. Our team has experts in various fields such as health, education, nutrition, environment, and more. We operate in over 60 countries, all 50 US states, and US territories.
We are looking for a qualified person to fill the position of Food Systems Advisor for ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana. This project, funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), will run for five years and work with partners like Action Against Hunger and others. The goal is to improve nutrition for women and children, especially during their first 1,000 days of life.
ELEVATE Nutrition aims to help the Ghanaian government provide equal and high-quality nutrition services that support food security and household resilience. Our work focuses on improving nutrition policies, supporting local governments, and encouraging behaviour change through partnerships outside of health.
Job Summary
The Food Systems Advisor will help guide and support the design and implementation of nutrition activities in Ghana. They will assist government actors in planning and delivering nutrition services and will promote understanding of nutrition among various non-health sectors. The advisor will work closely with colleagues and report to the Deputy Chief of Party. This position is based in Tamale, Ghana.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and guide nutrition activities related to food systems.
- Manage work plans and provide technical support to local governments.
- Promote quality implementation of food systems projects.
- Help design training materials and tools related to food systems.
- Contribute to reports for USAID and support gender equality in activities.
- Document and share successful practices and stories.
Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in Agriculture, Public Health, Nutrition, Social Sciences, or a related field is preferred.
- At least 8 years of experience in agriculture, nutrition, or public health, especially with donor-funded projects.
- Good knowledge of food systems in Ghana and experience working with government agencies is helpful.
- Strong communication skills in English and attention to detail.
- Ability to work with diverse teams and a willingness to travel, especially in northern Ghana.
- Experience with USAID-funded programs, especially those related to food initiatives, is highly desirable.
