Application Materials

  • Application Form for the Chinese Government Scholarship (in Chinese or English);
  • Duplicate of Passport Front Page. If the applicant’s present passport does not fulfill the requirement (i.e., it expires before September 2026), please obtain a new passport before applying.
  • Notarized the greatest degree. Prospective diploma recipients must provide official verification of student status to their current institution. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized translations in Chinese or English.
  • Academic transcripts from the undergraduate program forward. Copies of academic transcripts from the initial to final semester of undergraduate, graduate (if applicable), and doctoral programs (if applicable) must be sent. The attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department shall issue and seal these transcripts. Documents may be in Chinese or English; however, if they are in any foreign language other than English, they must have certified English translations.
  • Language proficiency certifications. Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must provide authentic HSK reports that meet the specified Chinese proficiency standards. Applicants pursuing programs taught in other languages must submit pertinent language competency certificates, such as IELTS or TOEFL reports, by the universities’ criteria.

Pre-admission documentation.

Pre-admission documentation provided by the chosen Chinese university, which may include an official acceptance letter, a pre-admission letter, or an invitation letter from a prospective supervisor acknowledged by the Department of International Students Admission at Chinese universities. The pre-admission letter or official invitation letter must be printed on the designated letterhead of the chosen Chinese university and issued and sealed by the university’s international student admissions office.

  • The enrollment or invitation letter must include the following information (in Chinese or English):
  1. Applicant details: complete name, nationality, date of birth, name of the most recent university attended, among others;
  2. Academic standing in China: graduate student or doctoral candidate;
  3. Anticipated duration of residence in China. The study timeframe will be clarified, and
  4. The enrollment period shall commence no earlier than September 2025.
  5. Details on the applicant’s Chinese supervisor, if applicable;
  6. Accounts of the applicant’s academic pursuits or investigations conducted in China;
  7. Language instructed in courses (Chinese or English);

Other Supporting Documents

  • The invitation letter provided by the supervisor must be sealed by the Department of International Students Admission and include the signature and contact details of the department head.
  • A proposal for a study plan. A study plan composed in Chinese or English must exceed 1,000 characters or words; the doctorate student’s proposal requires the signature of the applicant’s Chinese supervisor.
  • Letters of recommendation. Two letters of recommendation, exclusively in Chinese or English, must be presented from professors or associate professors. This correspondence will outline the applicant’s educational objectives in China, their overall competencies, an assessment of future development, and the collaboration between supervisors or the interaction between universities both domestically and internationally.
  • Example of artwork. Applicants for art or design majors may submit their portfolios via the “Example of Art/Other Supporting Documents” section in the system. Applicants may also submit these materials to the respective colleges through alternative methods.
  • Applicants under 18 must provide appropriate documentation from their legal guardians in China.
