POSITION: Rector

The Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives (GCNM) invites applications from adequately qualified individuals to fill the aforementioned post.

Reports to: Governing Council.

JOB PURPOSE: To provide strategic leadership, technical, and administrative direction to meet the College’s mandate.

JOB SUMMARY

  • Initiates actions to formulate College policies.
  • Oversees the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the College’s programmes and activities.
  • Provides oversight for the efficient and successful management of the College’s human, material, and financial resources.
  • Represents the College on relevant international forums.
  • Ensures that the College has suitable internal structures, controls, management, and decision-making systems and processes.
  • Takes the lead in mobilizing funds for the college.
  • Performs academic ceremonial obligations.
  • Acts as the Secretary to the Governing Council and Academic Board.
  • Oversees the development of programmes to fulfill the unique needs of Fellows, Members, Residents, and the Health Sector.
  • Signs and seals contracts with individuals, groups of people, organizations, and the College.
  • Collaborates and fosters relationships with government, public and private sector partners, and other stakeholders to carry out the College’s mandate.
  • Ensures compliance with college regulations.
  • Monitors the implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Ensures the preparation of the College’s annual and other periodic reports.
  • Oversees the creation of the College’s budget and work plan.
  • Oversees the implementation of the College’s Performance Management System.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Must be an accomplished nursing or midwifery practitioner/scholar.
  • A PhD holder and GCNM Fellow in good standing.
  • At least ten (10) years of experience in top management positions in tertiary education, science, and research institutions.
  • Pass a selection interview conducted by the Governing Council.

SKILLS AND COMPETITIONS

  • Knowledge of Specialist Health Training.
  • General understanding of health policies and operating processes.
  • Effective leadership and strategic management skills.
  • Strong knowledge and grasp of the Public Administration System.
  • Understanding of administrative policies and processes.
  • Strong knowledge of financial management, as well as labor laws and regulations.
  • Good business sense.
  • A high level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and presenting abilities.
  • Negotiation, networking, lobbying, and advocacy abilities.
  • Ability to manage conflicts.
  • The ability to inspire and motivate.
  • Knowledge of important IT applications.
  • Monitoring and evaluation abilities.
  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills.
  • Displays emotional intelligence.
