POSITION: Locum/Part-Time Biomedical Scientist (BS)

Job Description

MSI Ghana is looking for passionate, organized, client-oriented, and dynamic individuals with the following qualifications and experience in Accra. MSI Ghana’s mission is to address the needs of the underprivileged and increase access to Family Planning (FP) and other Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) services. The Locum Biomedical Scientist (BS) will be primarily responsible for providing quality laboratory services to clients in the health facility in compliance with the Allied Health Professions Council’s standards and MSI RCL standard operating procedures. This role will be headquartered at the MSI RCL Ghana Premier Centre at Tesano in Accra, and the candidate will contribute to organizational strategy while also modeling essential leadership behaviors under MSI RCL Ghana’s Evolving Model strategy and values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the planning and development of programs that will improve laboratory diagnostic services.
  • Supervise and guarantee that accurate laboratory reports are delivered within approved time frames.
  • Manage internal and external quality control procedures, as well as monitor turnaround times.
  • Supervise laboratory tests to ensure efficient and quality delivery of lab services.
  • Perform technical validation and reproducibility tests on laboratory instrumental analysis to verify the accuracy and precision specified by laboratory protocols.
  • Enforce strict adherence to preventive maintenance regimens for all laboratory instruments at all times.
  • Manage quality control failures or loss of performance of laboratory instruments or processes, and make referrals as needed.
  • Interprets laboratory data and takes necessary steps, such as advising the clinical care team when needed.
  • Follow permitted protocols when using the laboratory information management system.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the laboratory database.
  • Advise on the acquisition of laboratory reagents, capital equipment, and day-to-day operating costs as needed.
  • Effective laboratory administration requires strong leadership.
  • Additional assignments/target benchmarks as determined by management and/or the board

Required Skill or Experience

Knowledge, Skill, and Experience

  • A first degree and Medical Lab Sciences from a recognized university.
  • Certification from the Allied Health Professional Council.
  • A minimum of two years of practical experience, preferably as a supervisor in a laboratory department.
  • Proficiency with computer software, such as word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation tools.
  • Sound knowledge of the laboratory industry.
  • People management and leadership abilities
  • Ability to operate with manual and automated laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to perform technical validation and reproducibility tests on laboratory instrumental analysis.
  • Ability to advise and counsel on certain procedures.
  • Ability to train staff on laboratory-related topics.
