POSITION: Energy Expert

The Green Cities Infrastructure Programme (GCIP) is an important component of the UK Centre of Expertise in Green Cities and Infrastructure (GCI). It seeks to increase investment in and delivery of growth-enabling infrastructure and urban development that is responsible, dependable, inclusive, low-carbon, and climate-resilient. The GCIP’s impact framework and embedded goals include promoting and main streaming social inclusion, economic fairness, and poverty reduction, as well as generating ICF-aligned project pipelines.

This is a request for expressions of interest solely for important consultancy posts in the energy sector in Africa (Ghana, Zambia) on the ongoing GCI Programme, with expertise in the following technical areas:

  • Energy procurement
  • Energy permits and licenses
  • Energy institutions and institutional capacity development
  • Energy economists
  • Our expertise includes renewable energy, power generation, energy policy, power trading, transmission engineering, and energy-related community engagement.
  • Power system economists
  • Variable Renewable Energy Sources
  • VRES Investment & Procurement

Candidate Specifications:

Qualification

  • Role-specific, with an advanced degree in a relevant subject. Master’s degrees are preferable.
  • Experience and Knowledge
  • We are seeking junior, senior, and principal experts with relevant experience in international development initiatives. Previous work experience with FCDO (previously DFID) is advantageous. In-country experience is essential.

We are especially interested in locally based candidates for:

  • Lusaka, Zambia
  • Accra, Ghana.

Skills

  • Must have sector-specific knowledge and relevant regional experience. • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and communication skills is required.
  • Effective management, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail are essential.
  • Proficient in English language (both active and passive)
  • Strong writing and communication abilities, including expertise drafting English progress reports.
  • Excellent understanding of the local political economy.
  • Fluency and advanced knowledge of the local working language are preferred.

Job Profile

  • Provide technical expertise for agreed-upon outputs.
  • Assist Team leader in identifying important stakeholders for output delivery (in-country, regional, or international).
  • Assist the Team Leader and, if agreed upon, lead specific engagements with important stakeholders while representing GCIP.
  • Contribute to the creation of certain documents as agreed upon with the Team Leader.
  • Individual Intervention workplans are to be created in collaboration with the Team Leader and other technical/local professionals.
