POSITION: Technical Officer – REACH Malaria

PATH’s Malaria, Neglected Tropical Diseases program is a leader in the fight to eliminate malaria infections and deaths. It refines and develops tools and techniques, invests in national programs, and collects data to help national governments achieve malaria elimination.
PATH has exceptional expertise and experience in developing innovative malaria elimination tools and tactics, and it has the potential to become a recognized leader in speeding malaria elimination and worldwide eradication efforts. Moreover, PATH’s Center for Malaria Control and Elimination (CMCE) collaborates with PATH personnel and key partners to coordinate knowledge and programming, maximizing our combined effect on malaria elimination.
PATH is looking for a Technical Officer for the REACH Malaria worldwide initiative, which is financed by USAID. REACH aims to provide implementation support services and technical assistance to accelerate progress in the comprehensive delivery of facility and community-based malaria services, such as malaria case management, malaria prevention in pregnancy (MiP), seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), health system strengthening, data collection and use for service delivery, social and behavioral change, and other malaria prevention interventions.
The Technical Officer will assist the Malaria Technical Advisor in coordinating, planning, integrating, and supervising REACH Malaria activities in focal counties, sub-counties, districts, and communities. To ensure project success, the officer will assist with work planning, budgeting, financial reconciliation, and reporting. S/he will lead the PATH team in strengthening county and sub-county project integration.
Responsibilities:
- Lead program coordination and implementation at the regional, district, and community levels.
- Participate in the creation and implementation of a work plan and budget.
- Implement and monitor work plans, budgets, and reports.
- Coordinate technical assistance for program implementation.
- Assist the Malaria Technical Advisor with the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs.
- Assist with the creation of innovative program methods that are linked to relevant services.
- Collaborate with REACH and PATH consultants to implement training, services, and programs.
- Maintain partnerships on behalf of REACH with the Ministry of Health (MOH), donors, and other stakeholders.
- Support the documentation and distribution of best practices and lessons learned.
Required skills and experience:
- A bachelor’s degree and at least five years of progressively responsible job experience are necessary. Some job experience in malaria prevention or control is preferred.
- Experience dealing with Ministry of Health staff, as well as knowledge of health systems and initiatives.
- A proven track record of offering mentorship and supervision to strengthen healthcare services; training in quality improvement methodologies; and critical thinking and troubleshooting abilities to aid program implementation.
- Computer skills include demonstrated hands-on expertise with MS Suite-Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge: (functional or technical)
- A basic awareness of malaria and health issues, with a national focus, is required.
- Excellent understanding of USAID initiatives.
- Excellent verbal, writing, and presenting abilities.
- Maintain up-to-date information, skills, and attitudes while communicating with and training others.
