Job Description
MSI Ghana is looking for passionate, organized, client-oriented, and dynamic individuals with the following qualifications and experience in Accra. MSI Ghana’s mission is to address the needs of the underprivileged and increase access to Family Planning (FP) and other Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) services. Contract length: Permanent, full-time.
The Head of Marketing is the overall leader of the Marketing and Contact Center Team and is in charge of providing strategic direction to all MSI Ghana’s activities to better understand its marketplace, identify new and innovative ways to meet market needs and communicate effectively with target audiences, with the overall goal of informing and facilitating behavior change and attracting users to MSI Ghana services.
S/he will support the Country Director (CD) in developing MSI Ghana’s marketing initiatives. S/he will head a team of specialists in four distinct functional areas: innovation, communications, marketing (including press, publicity, and demand creation efforts), and contact center.
The position holder will collaborate closely with key external and internal audiences that are critical to the department’s mandate, particularly the major service delivery departments. The position holder is a member of MSI Ghana’s senior leadership team, and as such, they play an important part in all significant operational and strategic decisions for the organization, while also modeling essential leadership behaviors and embodying the organization’s values. In addition, the position holder will manage the implementation of strategies and plans for increasing market penetration and service numbers, design metrics for monitoring campaign impact, and ensure that all MSI Ghana team members contribute to the marketing effort.
Key Responsibilities
Communication about behavioural change
- Lead the Marketing team in developing rigorous approaches to Marketing and
- Behavioural Change Communication (BCC), such as positioning, branding, and budgeting, for all products and services.
- Develop evidence-based marketing tactics, based on a comprehensive understanding of triggers and barriers across the behavioral change framework (from awareness to advocacy).
- Monitor the success of marketing activities by collaborating closely with MSI Ghana M&E teams to develop evidence-based communication materials and strategies, as well as metrics to assess the quality and effectiveness of marketing activities executed by the country programme.
- Provide periodic strategic reviews of MSIG’s current marketing operations to ensure they are ‘best practices’ and to uncover trends and insights to offer specific recommendations for improving marketing techniques, including completing a gap analysis guided by existing market research insights.
- Develop functional relationships with important SRH partners who are interested in clinical concerns related to service delivery.
- Develop strong and collaborative relationships with other healthcare practitioners to facilitate knowledge sharing, referrals, and medical emergency management.
- Maximize the return on investment from marketing and BCC to improve measurable health impact and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure that the MSI Reproductive Choices brand and core messages are consistently applied to a range of materials directed at our various stakeholder groups (both internal and external) across the country.
- Create solutions to guarantee MSI Ghana clients have access to secure, confidential advice and services via the MSI contact center.
Communications
- Develop and implement MSI Ghana’s communications strategy, including providing direction and leadership for all internal and external communications.
- Share a consistent flow of information (social media updates, human interest stories, talking points Q&As, blogs, etc.) for internal and external distribution under MSI Ghana’s communication guidelines.
- Prepare technical and internal material in consumable ways for external audiences. The primary role is to package MSI Ghana’s expertise and disseminate it to the outside world through a dedicated website, an event with technical specialists, a compendium publication, and other means.
- As the organization’s brand protector, you will oversee all of Marie Stopes International’s external corporate communications initiatives, ensuring that they are effective, have consistent messaging, clear positioning, and an authentic voice that supports the organization’s objectives.
- Represent MSI Ghana externally, serving as a convincing spokesperson for the organization in front of the media and other stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with frontline national media (journalists), communications staff, and representatives from other non-governmental organizations, government institutions, and UN agencies, among others.
- Seek fresh ways to convey the organization’s narrative in a captivating way that captures the organization’s spirit, explains the effect of our work, and inspires action from our audiences.
- Lead the organization’s response to major media or reputational challenges, ensuring that the MSI Ghana response is strong, well-coordinated, and efficiently handled.
- Collaborate with advocacy colleagues to strengthen our reputation with Ghanaian media, politicians, and other key influencers.
- Assist the CD in responding to information requests from media, NGOs, and funders, including conducting interviews and field visits.
- Monitor print and electronic media for references of MSI Ghana and other areas of interest to the organization, and elevate any critical information to the CD.
Marketing and Communication Monitoring and Feedback
- Conduct regular field visits to interview personnel and beneficiaries, produce human interest articles, and record images and videos of MSI Ghana’s activities.
- Ensure that project accomplishments and problems are appropriately captured and documented using factsheets, case studies, tales, testimonies, high-quality photos and videos, media products, and articles.
- Monitor the impact of marketing and communications campaigns on service adoption and make appropriate recommendations on spend and channels.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Collaborate closely with the SMT, Marketing Team, Project Managers, Project Officers, Partners, and Stakeholders to develop and implement marketing initiatives.
- Identify prospects for corporate/business relationships that can help the organization achieve its mission and goals.
- Lead strategic and annual marketing planning, including cost center budgeting.
- Maintain constant awareness of external activities and advancements to ensure MSI Ghana remains ahead of the competition.
- Collaborate with colleagues to increase country-level resources for innovative marketing tactics that will support MSI Ghana’s objectives.
- Collaborate with MSI Ghana’s innovation and best practices team to foster and build a marketing and innovation culture. Lead and build a network of marketing advocates across MSI Ghana.
- Recognize, share, and reward marketing achievement within the MSI alliance.
Required Skill or Experience
To be successful in this role, you need:
- Advanced Degree in Business, Marketing, Public Relations, and Communications
- Chartered Marketer with additional professional credentials, preferably in Communications (CIPR) and Marketing (CIM – UK Level 7). desired
- 12 years of professional experience in marketing, business management, communications, public relations, or a similar sector, with at least 3 years at the senior management level.
- Commercially focused with a great track record of producing results and leading professional teams.
- Extensive experience working in marketing in the consumer, health, and pharmaceutical sectors.
- Significant experience dealing with multinational brands, consumer or health markets, ideally on a global and local scale.
- Significant expertise in sales and marketing in the health or development sector, including scaling products/services and working within the regulatory framework.
- Experience collaborating with and advising C-Suite and Board members on communication strategy.
- Experience with Digital Marketing and Analytics
- Experience with marketing budget/cost center accountability, promoting organizations externally with stakeholders (preferably in Sexual Reproductive Health).
- Knowledge in contact center management.
- Excellent strategic planning and the ability to distill complex data into simple, comprehensive, client-focused social marketing programs
- Highly numerate and able to generate and deconstruct profit and loss statements to comprehend the financial effect of decision-making.
- Deliver motivated leadership that produces goals and drives change through others.
- Action and results-oriented, with the capacity to stay on course.
- Highly developed interpersonal, negotiating, and influencing skills.
- Excellent communication skills in English
- An excellent coach who can coach and build team marketing skills.
