POSITION: Plant Engineer

Key Purpose Statement

The Engineering Manager’s major responsibility is to provide systemic and technical leadership for Voltic Engineering and Utilities while also assuring compliance with group SD requirements and standards, as well as legal compliance.

Creates and maintains engineering standards for utilities, plants, and services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure corporate compliance with CCBA SD (Sustainable Development) regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensure engineering legal compliance at the plant and throughout all operations (CDE, Fleet).
  • Lead the development of business continuity plans for water and electricity.
  • Creates and maintains utility, plant, equipment, and maintenance standards.
  • Ensure that utility and plant equipment and procedures meet the needed requirements.
  • Provide feedback on the design of significant capital projects and ensure that asset management operational readiness requirements for utilities and plants are met.
  • Lead the development and implementation of innovative efficient technologies, including alternative energy sources.
  • Ensure that the engineering teams follow proper safety and housekeeping protocols, as well as all regulatory requirements, when carrying out their tasks.
  • Create and install KPIs and reporting systems, then analyze the KPIs to provide business information.
  • Provide SD operational support on a plant level.
  • Provide SD input into the design of significant capital projects while ensuring that SD operational readiness standards are satisfied.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Requirements for this position include a bachelor’s degree or higher diploma in mechanical or electrical engineering, as well as advanced certification in hazardous installations, pressure systems, and pressure vessels.
  • At least ten years of work experience, with at least four years in utilities, plant operations, and management.
  • Experienced in manufacturing methods such as lean manufacturing, TPM, and WCM, as well as asset management and OEM requirements.
  • Excellent communication abilities, from executive to shop floor level. Possesses strong systemic and strategic thinking, coupled with practical realism.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the capacity to train people in CCBA Utilities Systems and Management.
  • Deep understanding of utility technology and the drivers of efficiency and integrity.
  • A thorough understanding of plant and equipment maintenance principles and methods.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS.

  • Good understanding of Engineering Management disciplines, concepts, and procedures.
  • Expertise in legal compliance, safety, health, and environmental management.
  • Ability to implement and audit business continuity processes.
  • Ability to assure compliance with accepted standards
  • Exceptional root-cause analysis and issue-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality are not negotiable.

Business-Related Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding and experience with the nature and management of multisite/location business operations.
  • Excellent commercial acumen.
  • Understanding and expertise with applicable OHS, building regulations, and environmental legislation

  • Capability to function at all levels of the firm, up to and including the MD and Directors.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are necessary.
  • Ability to influence top management and encourage the implementation of fresh ideas and methods for sustainability.
