Job Description
The Social Worker must support street-connected children and families.
As a field social worker, you will:
- Identify and visit hotspots for street-connected children, and provide tailored solutions for each instance.
- Implement best practices and protocols for reuniting street-connected children with their families.
- Trace the clients’ families and evaluate them for reintegration.
- Prepare comprehensive Social Inquiry/Investigation Reports for identified cases.
- Manage the transition protocols for moving children from the streets to their homes to ensure successful reintegration.
- Strengthen families so that they can function effectively as primary socialization agents.
- Improve client and family access to current social services.
- Identify, form, and sustain partnerships with key stakeholders to maximize resources for clients, families, and communities.
- Visit reunified children and families on a regular basis to plan the most effective interventions for successful reintegration.
- Counsel clients and their families on how to make programs as effective as possible.
- Hold workshops to empower and enhance the lives of street children and families.
- Create activity reports to promote debate and informed decision-making.
At the Drop-In Centre.
- Interact with, evaluate, and counsel street-connected children and families.
- Collaborate with colleagues, other professionals, and families of street-connected children to create successful interventions for children in street settings.
- Prepare resources and offer suitable care to street-connected children.
- Monitor the children’s everyday activities at the Drop-in Center.
- Engage children in inventive and meaningful play activities.
- Prepare lesson notes and instruct the children in your charge.
- Prepare street-connected children for their return to school.
- Collect and compile basic information on the children, then create activity reports for discussion and informed decisions.
Required Skill or Experience
To be successful in this role, you need:
- A first-class degree or diploma in social work, sociology, integrated development studies, community development, guidance and counselling, youth development work, or education for population and family life.
- A minimum of three years of experience working with children or families in a non-profit setting.
- In-depth grasp of Ghana’s street children and families.
- Understanding of national and international laws, treaties, charters, and policies governing work with children.
- Casework skills and experience have been exhibited.
- Familiarity with child-centered approaches to issue solving for street-connected youth.
- Working understanding of database management software is advantageous.
- Capable of speaking English, Twi, and any other Ghanaian language.
- Excellent ability to foster trustworthy relationships and alliances with children and families.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
