The Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS), in accordance with the Local Governance Act of 2016, Act 936, is seeking highly successful and results-oriented individuals to fill vacant positions at the Regional and District levels as follows:
- Co-ordinating Director (District)
- Regional Director of Social Welfare
- Regional Director of Community Development
- Head of Works Department at MMDAS

About The Local Government Service
The Local Government Service is a public service entity created by the Local Government Service Act of 2003 (Act 656), which was abolished and replaced by the Local Governance Act of 2016 (Act 936). The Service exists ”to ensure effective administration and management of the country’s decentralized local government system”.
FUNCTIONS:
The functions highlight the roles of the LGS’s various entities in ensuring local participation in resource mobilization and utilization for development.
The Local Government Service’s general functions include:
Provide technical help to MMDAs and RCCs so that they can efficiently perform their tasks.
Our responsibilities include conducting organizational and job analyses for RCCs and MMDAs, conducting management audits to improve overall management, designing and coordinating management systems and processes, and assisting RCCs and MMDAs in performing their functions under Act 462, Act 480, and other enactments. Our vision is to provide a world-class decentralized and client-oriented service.
MISSION: ‘To assist local governments in providing value for money services by mobilizing, harmonizing, and utilizing excellent human and material resources to support local and national development.
