POSITION: Field Supervisor
The International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) stands as a pioneering multi-stakeholder organization uniting civil society, certifiers, the cocoa and chocolate industry, and international institutions to combat child and forced labour in the cocoa sector. We currently seek a dedicated Field Supervisor to join our Country Office in Ghana and strengthen our field-based operations. A Role of Community Impact
The Field Supervisor position extends beyond program coordination. You will take responsibility for implementing ICI’s Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS) across assigned geographical areas, ensuring industry partners manage child labour risks responsibly within their cocoa supply chains. Your work will directly contribute to eliminating the worst forms of child labour while promoting children’s rights across cocoa-growing communities. Consequently, we seek an individual who combines project management expertise with strong stakeholder engagement capabilities and genuine commitment to child protection.
Core Responsibilities
Your daily activities will encompass three primary areas of focus:
Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Ensure field-based collaboration with relevant partners and stakeholders
- Represent ICI at programme and project functions and meetings as agreed
- Liaise effectively between ICI Accra, regional stakeholders, and local authorities
- Build and maintain constructive working relationships across diverse groups
Project Management:
- Execute activities according to project planning while ensuring method compliance
- Implement ICI Foundation guidelines and policies consistently
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on project activities
- Participate in coordination meetings discussing implementation progress and challenges
- Document learnings, good practices, tools, and training materials
- Collect and transmit relevant field information for regular reporting
CLMRS Implementation:
- Supervise Partner Field Staff activities in implementing the CLMRS
- Train partners’ Field Staff on child and forced labour concepts and CLMRS implementation
- Provide ongoing technical support ensuring Field Staff fulfil their terms of reference
- Proactively monitor KPIs for your assigned area and work towards improvement
- Support Community Labour Protection Committees (CLPC) setup and their linkages with district authorities
- Monitor CLPC activities and submit monitoring reports
Capacity Building and Additional Duties:
- Conduct refresher training for partners, Field Staff Support, and community awareness sessions
- Advise on remediation strategies and follow up on implementation activities
- Ensure all CLMRS farmers understand and sign consent forms
- Support ICI mission and visit organization to project areas
- Organize logistics for field visits by ICI staff and industry partners
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Educational Foundation: Candidates must hold a University degree in Education, Psychology, Child Development, Social Sciences, or a relevant discipline. This background should demonstrate strong understanding of community development and child protection principles.
- Professional Experience: We require a minimum of two years of experience in stakeholder engagement, training, and project management. Report preparation and knowledge documentation capabilities remain essential. Experience working at sub-national and community levels proves critical for success.
- Core Competencies Required: Ability to maintain confidential information and demonstrate irreproachable behaviour stands non-negotiable. Fluency in written and spoken English and a Ghanaian language, preferably Twi, enables effective community engagement. Excellent MS Office Suite skills facilitate efficient reporting and documentation. Strong interpersonal and communication skills support relationship building across diverse stakeholders.
- Desirable Attributes: Knowledge of child protection and child labour issues provides a distinct advantage. Ability to establish good working relationships with partners and staff enhances program effectiveness. Capacity to work under pressure with strong attention to detail ensures quality delivery.
