7 New Australia Student Visa Rules 2024 | Australia Student Visa Update

The Australian government has made several changes to its immigration policies that would impact international students and foreign nationals. These updates are crucial for anyone studying or planning to study in Australia since they help students handle the requirements more effectively and make educated decisions about their education there.

This update looks at how the Australian government’s 2024 reforms to its student visa policies would affect international education. Some of the modifications that impact current students’ work permits while studying in Australia as well as those affecting new students enrolling in Australian universities are as follows.

1. Update to the Working Hour

If you have a student visa, the maximum amount of hours you can work in Fortnite is 48. The temporary exemption—which also applies to people who work in elder care—ended on December 31, 2023. Luckily, you can work as many hours as you choose during study breaks and holidays, which makes them great opportunities to earn extra money.

2. New English Language Requirements

The Australian government intends to impose more stringent English language standards on international students in response to recent research. The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) now requires applicants for student visas to score at least 6.0, while applicants for graduate visas must score at least 6.5.

Minimum scores for additional English language tests might also alter. You can find more information on language requirements on the Department of Home Affairs website.

3. Higher Financial Proof Requirement

Prospective international students will now have to meet a greater financial criterion to be eligible for a student visa. Applicants must demonstrate that they have at least $24,500 in savings, $635 (formerly $510) for a working holiday visa, $190 (previously $150) for a visitor visa, and $710 (previously $650) for a student visa.

5. Priority Processing System

In December 2023, the government announced modifications to the guardian visa priority system for students. Priority processing will be granted to those wishing to enroll in classes at a school that has been designated as evidence level one.

It will also apply to applicants from the domains of education, foreign affairs, defense, and postgraduate research, as well as all applications for Guardian visas for students. Applications must be filed from outside of Australia to be eligible.

6. Reduced Post-Study Work Rights

To help manage Australia’s increasing migration, the Australian government has restricted post-study job privileges for international graduates. One of the changes that would impact those in possession of Temporary Graduate Subclass 485 Visas is the cancellation of the extended work rights that were announced in July 2023.

Additionally, the period of some initial visas has been shortened, and only individuals residing in regional areas are now qualified for renewals of Temporary Graduate Visas. Applicants must be in Australia to submit their application, and they cannot be older than 35, as opposed to the previous maximum age of 50.

7. No Concurrent Study

Enrolling in many courses concurrently is known as concurrent study, sometimes known as dual study or concurrent enrollment. Regulations that were put into place late last year prohibit international students from participating in parallel study programs. Students who were enrolled in multiple courses at the time the new regulations were implemented, however, are not subject to this

Applicants who want to study in Australia now have to deal with a more rigorous application process under the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) criteria, which includes stricter financial requirements and increased surveillance.

What if we told you that starting in March, the Albanese government plans to remove a regulation that prevents students wishing to relocate here permanently from enrolling in Australian universities? You did hear correctly. Labor promised to strengthen the immigration framework this year to greatly improve the immigration stream after the number of immigrants reached historic highs of 518,000 last year.

The goal of the new rule is to discourage foreign visitors to Australia who come to study but want to work. It will be a component of a real student test. The objective is to weed out individuals who falsely claim they want to remain in the nation while streamlining the application process for fewer actual students who wish to work in Australia.

This year’s student visit rejection rate is significantly greater than it was the previous year. Following the 2023 opening of immigration, laborers hurried to offset the damage brought about by rising housing and rental costs.
