Canada PR: PGWP Extension 2024!! How to Apply & Processing Time

In case you are an international student studying in Canada, a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) could be an additional boost to your career. Through the PGWP, you can obtain work experience in Canada after completing your education. This is an excellent chance that can help you become more employable, develop your abilities, and possibly even open the door to permanent residence in Canada.

You can discover more about PGWP Canada’s extension in 2024 from this update. See this post to learn more about the PGWP application process, including how long it takes to process. Those whose PGWP is about to expire can currently apply to have it extended.

What is PGWP Canada?

Upon completion of their studies in Canada, international students are eligible to apply for a post-graduate work permit. This is called a work permit for Canada. With this visa, the student can work as many hours as they like for any company or organization in Canada. Typically, a PGWP Canada work permit for 2024 lasts between eight months and three years.

The duration of a student’s academic program is the only time that their postgraduate work visa in Canada is valid. To be eligible for a PGWP Canada, you must complete the course for at least eight months; after that, only you will. In Canada, a post-graduate work permit can only be obtained for a maximum of three years.

Recently graduated from a designated learning institution (DLI)? You might be qualified for a post-graduate work permit (PGWP) extension in 2024 if you want to work briefly in Canada. Those whose post-graduation work permits (PGWP) are scheduled to expire in 2023 can now apply online for a renewal or extension.

More information regarding the application procedure for PGWP holders requesting an extension has been made available by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). PGWP work permit holders will receive a one-time, 18-month extension if their permits expire between September 20, 2021, and December 31, 2022.

In general, it is not viable to extend the PGWP beyond 2024; however, Canada is an exception due to the extended pause in Express Entry drawings. Due to the halt in the draws for non-PNP applicants and the pause that followed the implementation of the National Occupation Classification 2021, many highly qualified individuals were left in the pool unable to apply.

Further Details

Because of the overabundance of outstanding candidates, the minimum comprehensive ranking system score for all program draws continued to be unreasonably high. Individuals whose PGWP is about to expire can now apply to have it extended. Upon graduation from a Canadian organization, the applicant will receive information about post-graduation work permits.

On September 1, 2023, the new regulation went into force. The provincial government’s supported colleges and universities will be unaffected by this. You will receive an additional 18-month open work permit if your post-graduation work permit (PGWP) expires in 2023 or if it has already expired between September 20, 2021 and December 31, 2022.

If you are in the process of applying for a PGWP Canada extension 2024, your PGWP may have expired or is set to expire this year. Individuals whose status was due to expire within the specified term and who are qualified for the previous PGWP extension as of April 6, 2023, may also be granted an extension.

Who Can Get PGWP Extension 2024?

To extend your status for up to 18 months, foreign students whose work permit expires in 2023 or is set to expire on April 6, 2023, may apply. It is still possible for students whose PGWP has expired to recover their status after the ninety-day restoration period has elapsed. While the processing of their new work permit application is underway, they will be granted interim work permission.

Additionally, those whose PGWP expired between September 20, 2021, and December 31, 2022, may now apply for work permit extensions, which will allow them to remain in Canada for an additional 18 months while their permit is being renewed or extended. Those already in Canada have the permit to carry on with their jobs.
