University of Basel Biozentrum Ph.D. Fellowships 2024: Study In Switzerland

International students can further their studies with the Biozentrum PhD Fellowships Program offered by the University of Basel in Switzerland.

Scholarship Overview:

Exceptionally gifted, driven, and very excited young researchers from all over the world are cordially invited to the Biozentrum, the University of Basel’s Center for Molecular Life Sciences.

Applications are now being accepted for the esteemed PhD grants provided by the Biozentrum Basel International PhD Program.

The Biozentrum Ph.D. fellowships are provided through a rigorous competitive selection procedure; unlike other doctorate candidate programs that use general recruitment methods, a maximum of 10 successful candidates are chosen each year.

International applicants from around the globe are cordially invited to learn more about the prestigious Biozentrum PhD fellowships program. These worldwide scholarships are intended to recognize and assist extremely brilliant graduate students in the life sciences. The Werner Siemens Foundation and the University of Basel generously sponsor them.

In addition to extra financial support, the program offers direct admission to the Ph.D. program at the Biozentrum, University of Basel; participants can also choose a research group using a rotation-based methodology, and they will receive assistance for attending scientific conferences and courses during their Ph.D. journey.

Apart from the opportunity to participate in rotation-based projects in their selected research groups, winners of the Biozentrum Ph.D. fellowships program will have access to additional rewards targeted at developing their scientific abilities and improving their prospects for employment as prospective Ph.D. candidates.

Those who accept the fellowship in Switzerland will work as researchers in the Biozentrum for at least two rotations in different labs. Candidates can select their research group for their Ph.D. thesis after finishing these rotations and with the group leader’s consent.

There will be a minimum of two months in each rotation. Funding for a Ph.D. scholarship at the University of Basel is available for three years and three months.

Qualification Requirements:

Rules for Eligibility for the PhD Fellowships at Biozentrum:

  • Applications are accepted from candidates worldwide.
  • A strong interest in the field of life sciences should be present.
  • Candidates also need to have a background in computer science, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and/or biological or biomedical sciences.
  • Candidates must have a degree from an accredited university that entitles them to admission to the University of Basel’s Ph.D. program, or they must plan to get one. This degree is usually awarded at the Master’s (MSc or comparable) level.
  • Highly qualified candidates from non-Bologna system universities may be given preference for an accelerated Master’s program at the University of Basel that coincides with their fellowship.
  • Candidates must not be enrolled as Ph.D. students at the University of Basel at the time the fellowship call is released, nor should they have signed a Ph.D. employment contract with the university in order to be eligible for the fellowship.
  • Research must be conducted in at least two laboratories (rotations) at the Biozentrum for all accepted candidates.
