UAE Announces Changes to Work Permit System and Extends Validity
The UAE’s Federal National Council (FNC) has agreed to make work permits valid for three years instead of two. This was done in response to suggestions to reduce financial pressures. Other ideas include getting rid of the fees for work permits and making it so that workers have to stay with a company for a certain amount of time.
The Federal National Council (FNC) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) recently agreed to make work passes valid for three years instead of two. In response to a request from an FNC committee to make getting work permits less expensive, the choice was made.
Extension of Work Permit Duration
At the moment, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization gives out two-year work permits in the UAE. It’s important to remember that you can’t work in the country without a legal permit.
On the other hand, the FNC Committee on Financial, Economic, and Industrial Affairs wanted to extend the time to three years to speed up the process and keep costs down for both people and businesses. The FNC agreed with this suggestion, which shows a big change in the job market.
Additional Recommendations
The FNC group also came up with a number of other ideas to make the work permit system work better and be more flexible. One of these suggestions is to get rid of the fees for changing jobs, which would make it easier for workers to move around the UAE.
Another idea that was approved is that after the probation time, workers have to stay with the same employer for at least a year. But if the boss agrees, they can take off this condition from the list.
Enhanced Inspection Measures
During talks, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation told the Federal National Council (FNC) about its strict inspections all over the country.
This year alone, there were more than 72,000 inspections. Of those, 2,300 were linked to cases of possible fraudulent Emiratization. About 430 cases were found by the ministry, and some were sent to the public prosecution for further action.
Protective Policies for Employers
During a recent FNC meeting, Abdulrahman Al Awar, the Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, talked about three important laws that protect employers from different risks:
1. Insurance for worker protection
Employers are required to give workers insurance coverage to protect them in case their company goes bankrupt or they can’t pay their dues. At the moment, this plan covers more than 96% of workers who have signed up
2. System to protect wages
This method makes sure that employees get their pay on time and in a safe way. Companies and other places of business have to pay their employees through authorized financial companies.
3. Unemployment Insurance
More than 2 million people have signed up for jobless insurance, which includes 40,000 Emiratis. Workers in the UAE who are eligible must sign up for this plan by June 30 or face fines. The plan is a low-cost safety net for people who might lose their jobs.
Bottomline
In conclusion, the FNC’s approval of extending work permits to three years shows that the UAE government wants to improve the job market and make it easier for workers and companies to deal with paperwork.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has put in place measures that hope to find a balance between protecting employees’ rights and helping employers meet Emiratisation goals.
