Study In USA: University of Kentucky Scholarships 2024

Applications are open for interested students to apply for the 2024 University of Kentucky Scholarships. Applicants are encouraged to read thoroughly and follow the instructions below for a successful application.

About the University of Kentucky Scholarships

Need-Based Scholarship Program for Freshmen

If you have been accepted to the UK and finished high school in Kentucky, you can apply for one of two need-based scholarships:

  • L. Stanley Pigman Engineering Scholarship (includes a chance to study abroad)
  • Scholarship from the Robert B. and Helen P. Jewell Foundation

Requirements

For both grants, there is only one form to fill out. The entry form is called “College of Engineering Freshmen Need-Based Scholarship Application for 2024–25 (Jewell & Pigman)” and can be found on Scholarship Universe. To set up your UK Link Blue login information, please look at your letter of acceptance to the UK.

The following documents must be uploaded with the application: (You can’t mail or email these to The College; you have to post them.)

  • Two letters of recommendation, one from a math or science teacher.
  • A 500-word essay in which you explain why you should win one of these awards and why you want to get a degree in engineering.
  • Activity for high school (there is a form that can be downloaded and filled out by students before uploading it).
  • These awards are only given to people who need them, so the student must have an FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on file so that we can be sure they do. You can fill out the FAFSA starting in December for the next school year, and you don’t have to do your taxes to do so. Families can guess their income on the FAFSA to get it done early, and then they can change it after they file their taxes. The FAFSA information will be sent to the university about two weeks after it is filled out.

The Dean’s chosen College of Engineering Scholarship Committee will review each submission. Students are given awards based on their GPA, ACT or SAT scores, writing skills, promise to be leaders, extracurricular activities, and their need for money. Someone in the group will decide if a scholarship is given.

If it is, the amount given will depend on how much the student needs it. These prizes run from $1000 to $15,000. For the 2024–25 school year, the college wants to give out about 50 new grants.

Concerning the University of Kentucky

Many useful things for the University of Kentucky can be found on its main campus in the middle of the Bluegrass. We are good at multidisciplinary studies because we have a lot of programs, and all of our schools, programs, and research projects work together because of this.

We stay true to our purpose in Kentucky—to teach, create, heal, and serve—because of the people we teach and the lives we change. Our goal is very complicated and has many parts. It looks very different now than it did in 1865. But we are very aware of our duty to the people on campus and in the surrounding area.

The goal has changed and grown. Serving the Commonwealth and the rest of the world is still the goal. They are still our guide and the heart of the University of Kentucky.

History

In February 1865, when the Civil War was still going strong, John Bryan Bowman pushed for Lexington to have a public university. Even though it is in the Bluegrass, the Agriculture and Mechanical College of Kentucky University would go on to help the whole Commonwealth.

It was a big idea that a university could change people’s lives by giving them the best higher education, doing cutting-edge research and discovery, and helping to heal and improve the areas it serves. Bowman said that the University of Kentucky should be the Commonwealth’s most important school.

The University of Kentucky is always coming up with new ways to serve its students, teachers, staff, alumni, friends, and the people of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The University of Kentucky’s innovative thinking, inventive work, excellent teaching, and helpful service have an impact on people all over the state, the nation, and the world. This is the promise we keep by doing groundbreaking research, reaching out to the community, providing a challenging education, and making technological advances that make the Commonwealth a better place to live while also promoting culture through our museums, libraries, and special events.

It was founded in 1865 as a land-grant school and is located next to downtown Lexington. It is in the heart of Kentucky’s beautiful Bluegrass Region. In its early years, the UK had only 190 students and 10 professors. Now, the school is spread out over 918 acres and has more than 30,000 students and 13,500 employees, including more than 2,300 full-time faculty. It has an annual budget of nearly $3.9 billion.

Why study at the University of Kentucky?

Do research with experts

You should think about getting a graduate degree at the University of Kentucky if you want to work with well-known professors, be a part of an active research lab, speak at conferences, and have your work published in reputable scientific journals.

The National Science Foundation has given over 30 of our staff members CAREER Awards, and the college gets over $70 million in grants every year.

There are many chances to work together since the Colleges of Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Agriculture, Food, and Environment are all on the same site.

Student Life

UK’s beautiful site is right in the middle of Lexington. It has about six million square feet of new construction, as well as lots of green space and old, fancy buildings. When you’re not in class or the lab, Lexington has a busy downtown area, the Keeneland Race Track, and state parks close by.

The college also has several groups just for graduate students. These include the Materials and Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Association and the Biomedical Engineering Society.

Engineering Graduate Student Lounge

In-room 322 of the Center for Robotics and Manufacturing Systems building (CRMS), there is a sitting area just for graduate engineering students. Room 324 (the kitchen) can be used to get in. To get in, please use your UK ID card.

The room is a spot for all graduate engineering students to unwind and talk to each other. There are comfortable seating places, café tables and chairs, a foosball table, a big-screen TV, and several board games in the lounge. The kitchen next door has a fridge, a microwave, a sink, and a Keurig coffee machine.

Campus Recreation

College Recreation’s job is to help students do well in school and live healthy lives by offering high-quality wellness and recreation programs and services to the college community.

Programs the University of Kentucky offers:

Lewis Honors College, the Graduate School, and the UK Library System are three of 16 degree-granting institutions that offer more than 200 academic programs. A strong faculty core supports these programs.
