Concerning Ferrum College
Established in 1913, Ferrum College is a private liberal arts institution associated with the United Methodist Church. It provides professional and liberal arts programs, including commerce, environmental science, musical theater, agriculture, and teacher preparation. Ferrum College offers an exceptional educational experience in an environment of exceptional natural beauty, surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, multiple lakes, rivers, and state parks.
The natural environment has an impact on each student’s education at Ferrum College. With chances for research and internships across all majors, Ferrum boasts one of the oldest environmental science programs in the nation. Exploration of intellectual, social, and ethical topics is encouraged via the Boone Honors Program. Agricultural science is not offered academically at any other private college in Virginia except Ferrum College.
An essential link to the history and culture of the Appalachian Blue Ridge region is the Blue Ridge Institute and Museum at the College, which serves as the official repository for Virginia folklore. The college slogan, “Not Self, But Others,” embodies Ferrum students’ dedication to community service and action.
Our Background as Methodists

Band Scholarship
Undergraduate students participating in the Ferrum College Band are eligible to apply for scholarships. It is necessary to audition with the band leader. Recipients must be pursuing degrees full-time. The $1,000 award is renewable for up to seven semesters as long as the student continues to pursue a degree full-time and as a Band member. It is given out for the academic year.
Beckham Presidential Scholarship
The award is given on the basis of merit to new undergraduates who demonstrate exceptional leadership and academic competence. This scholarship is highly competitively selected, taking into account the applicant’s academic record, performance during the competition, and scholarship application. Before the scholarship competition, the student had to be accepted to the college. Full tuition and the average cost of room and board are the award amounts.
Any additional state or federal awards a student may get will be deducted from the scholarship in order to cover tuition, lodging, and board. If outside support exceeds the cost of attendance, the scholarship amount will be lowered. This scholarship is not available to students who receive Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits or tuition remission.
This scholarship may be extended for an extra seven semesters as long as the recipient stays enrolled full-time, pursues a degree, and maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. There can be only one scholarship competition per student.
Endowed Scholarship
Students who demonstrate financial need are eligible for a variety of endowed scholarships. During the academic year, endowed scholarships are used in lieu of Ferrum Grants. Endowment scholarship applications are no longer being accepted. Renewability of endowed scholarships is subject to certain donor requirements, full-time enrollment, and determination of financial need through the FAFSA.
Ferrum Merit Scholarship
Students receive merit-based awards after being admitted to Ferrum College. Each student’s specific reward will be determined after taking into account their GPA from high school and/or college. This scholarship is renewable for a maximum of four years as long as the student continues to pursue a degree full-time.
