Spark MicroGrants Calls For Job Applications

POSITION: District Coordinator

Spark MicroGrants is seeking a District Coordinator to be based in Osino, Ghana, covering Fanteakwa North, Abuakwa North, Nkoranza, Abuakwa South, Suhum Municipality, and Atiwa East District. If you hold a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Administration, or a related field, bring at least five years of experience in community development or NGO programming, and want to work with a dynamic international team, this role offers the perfect opportunity to scale community driven development across Ghana.

Why Spark MicroGrants?

Spark MicroGrants believes in a world where everyone lives with dignity and determines their own positive future. Spark has pioneered a community driven development model in sub Saharan Africa, working with NGO and government partners to scale adoption and impact on rural communities on their own terms. Our model combines facilitated community meetings (the Facilitated Collective Action Process or FCAP) with a small, discretionary grant to catalyze local action and institution building. As District Coordinator, you will not simply monitor projects; you will cultivate district level relationships, represent Spark MicroGrants, provide oversight to the FCAP national implementing partner, lead partner coordination, identify and mitigate program risk, and support data collection activities.

Your Mission

Under the overall supervision of the Ghana Country Director, you will take responsibility for driving government relations and partner coordination across your assigned districts. Your focus will span relationship cultivation, partner oversight, risk identification, FCAP design input, MEL support, learning action, stakeholder hosting, and donor proposal inputs. Your ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks will determine your success.

Key Responsibilities

Your role spans district level relationships, partner support, risk mitigation, FCAP design, MEL coordination, learning application, stakeholder engagement, and donor reporting. Here is what you will tackle:

District Level Relationships

  • You will cultivate and maintain district level relationships, representing Spark MicroGrants professionally and persuasively.
  • Building trust with local government officials opens doors for smoother implementation.

Partner Support & Oversight

  • You will provide support and oversight to the FCAP national implementing partner, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality parameters.
  • Leading partner coordination on behalf of Spark MicroGrants keeps all stakeholders aligned.

Risk Identification & Mitigation

  • You will support the FCAP national implementing partner to identify and mitigate program risk and foreseeable future challenges.
  • Also, spotting problems early prevents them from derailing progress.

FCAP Design & Context

  • You will input into FCAP design with a specific focus on the operating context in your area.
  • Local knowledge makes the model more effective and culturally appropriate.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

  • You will support the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning team in their data collection activities.
  • Then, ensuring global and national level learnings are actioned to improve FCAP closes the loop between data and practice.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • You will organize and host key stakeholders whilst visiting the FCAP, creating positive experiences for partners and donors.
  • Every visit is an opportunity to strengthen relationships.

Donor Proposals & Reporting

  • You will provide inputs into donor proposals and reporting, helping secure the funding that makes our work possible.

What You Bring to the Role

We are looking for a candidate with the right education, experience, skills, and personal attributes. Here is what you need:

Education & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in community development, NGO programming, or rural development.
  • Experience successfully cultivating and maintaining district level government relationships.
  • Experience working on multi stakeholder projects in a coordination role.
  • Experience working with community driven development models gives you a distinct advantage.

Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for building trust with government officials, partners, and communities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, managing your own schedule and priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills for identifying risks and designing solutions.
  • Excellent writing and reporting skills for donor proposals and progress updates.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality.
  • The ability to speak Twi is an advantage, facilitating smoother community interactions.

Other Requirements

  • Willingness to travel frequently to Accra, to project sites, and occasionally internationally.

Why Work With Us

  • Dynamic International Team: You will join a team hailing from over ten countries, all committed to our vision.
  • Freedom and Autonomy: You will make your role your own, bringing innovative ideas and critical questions.
  • Work Life Balance: We respect and value your need for downtime, vacation, and reflection.
  • Learning and Advancement: You will join a dynamic, growing organization with clear pathways for career growth.

Key Details to Remember

  • Location: Osino and Walewale (with ~30% travel)
  • Probation: Three months with agreed learning and performance objectives
  • Expected Start Date: 1st June 2026
  • Benefits: Generous paid time off, family leave, monthly communications stipend, and professional development stipend
