Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung 2023 International Student Scholarships

Highly qualified international students who intend to pursue graduate or doctoral studies in Germany are awarded Master’s and Ph.D. scholarships by the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung. They ought to be people who are actively involved in politics and society.

Scholarships Offered by the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Information

  • Host Nation: Germany
  • Host Institutions: German universities are the host institution(s).
  • Eligible Subjects: Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in any discipline, except medicine, dentistry, and veterinary medicine, are available.

Candidate Eligibility

International students from every continent. The socially needy, women, students from non-academic backgrounds, migrants, individuals with disabilities, and students who have achieved and demonstrated commitment are given preference.

Scholarship advantages:

The living grant portion of the scholarship is provided to overseas students for the duration of the regular study program time. International students do not receive tuition reimbursement.

The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung’s Scholarship Department provides students with a variety of resources, including political education conferences, summer schools, seminars held domestically and abroad, symposia, and field trips.

Additionally, it arranges for hands-on training in subjects like rhetoric, conflict resolution and other critical skills, time management and self-management, enhancing academic credentials, text and writing workshops, and specialized methodological seminars.

Requirements in general

Foreign MA and Ph.D. students temporarily residing in Germany for academic or research purposes are eligible for funds from the Scholarship Department (only MA students). The prerequisites are:

  • Fluency in German at the B2 level or higher
  • MA – The student must go to a German university that is either paid for by the government or approved by the government.
  • A German university must accept Ph.D. students.

Graduate students from Egypt, Libya, Lebanon, Tunisia, Yemen, Jordan, Morocco, and Iraq who are studying for their MA, Diploma, or State Exam in Germany or doing research for their Ph.D. or doctoral thesis in Germany can apply for MA and doctorate grants.

These are the selection criteria:

  • High intellectual and professional credentials (evidence of superior academic performance in high school and/or university)
  • Political and social involvement consistent with Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung goals
  • Fluency in German at the B2 level or higher.
  • Individual and familial history

Application Instructions:

Online is the way to apply for a scholarship. For grants starting in the summer semester of the following year (1 April), the application deadline is 1 October. The date for grants that will start in the winter semester of the same year (1 October) is April 1.
