How Can I Do a Retirement Visa Application for Colombia?

Applying domestically in Colombia

You must go to the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores office in Bogotá to apply for a retirement visa if you are already in Colombia.   • Colombian pesos and cash are accepted at Banco GNB Sudameris.

Payment at the consulate

  • Making payments using a MasterCard or VISA credit card

Once the retirement visa for Colombia is granted,

  • You must apply for a Cedula de Extranjeria (ID Card) after receiving your retirement visa. The Special Administrative Unit for Colombia Migration provides ID cards that foreigners living in Colombia can use to prove their identity.
  • To obtain your Cedula de Extranjeria, you have fifteen days.
  • Once you have your ID card, you can sign up for the Obligatory Health Plan (OHP) or enter the Colombian healthcare system.

May my family come with me?

Sure, feel free to bring along your dependents. Your family members who wish to travel with you to Colombia must be included on a single retirement visa application. The following relatives are able to accompany you:

  • Your spouse
  • Your child who is younger than 25
  • Your child’s inability to work and support themselves due to a disability (no age restriction)
  • Your relatives will be given beneficiary visas. Families who are dependent on the bearer of a Colombian retirement visa (you) are eligible to apply for this kind of visa. Although they are not allowed to work, your family will have the right to an education.

Family member requirements

You need to turn in the following paperwork in order to bring your dependents with you:

  • The family members’ passports, number one.
