Ontario Expands Eligibility Criteria for OINP: A Boost for International Students in Canada

Ontario recently made significant changes to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) Employer Job Offer: International Student stream. The change focuses on broadening qualifying standards, notably for students who have completed a one-year college graduate certificate program.

Overview

Ontario reduced the restrictions for persons applying to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program. The province has increased the qualifying conditions for students with a one-year college graduate certificate. Furthermore, this is a substantial change to the Employer Job Offer: International Student stream of the OINP.

Ontario Relaxed Conditions for the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program:

Previously, applicants with a one-year certificate from an accredited university could only apply via the OINP’s Employer Job Offer: International Student stream. This is only applicable if the program requires completion of a degree as a condition for entrance.

The OINP now accepts candidates from any one-year college program that offers an Ontario College Graduate Certificate to qualify. However, it must increase the number of certificate programs that are eligible for the OINP. The change became effective on January 1st, 2024.

International Student Stream: OINP Employer Job Offer

The Ontario Immigrant and Newcomer Program (OINP) Employer Job Offer Program allows international students who have been offered a job in an appropriately skilled occupation in Ontario to submit an application for permanent residency. The stream for students from other countries.

Students from other countries who are legal citizens of Canada or who have a job offer in a skilled occupation are eligible to participate in this stream. Because of the nature of this skilled occupation, it must be classified as either NOC 0, A, or B.

Additionally, in order to be eligible for a job offer, overseas students were required to verify that they, their company, and the job offer were all in compliance with the requirements of the program. In addition, whenever international students submit an application, they are required to fill out a business form, which is also required to be filled out by an Ontario firm.

Applications for a work visa and permanent residency in Canada are both open to nominees who have IRCC. If they submit a legitimate application, they will be able to accomplish this goal. Moreover, they are required to obtain a nomination from the provincial government of Ontario for this stream.

To qualify for the program, applicants must demonstrate that they have obtained one of the following qualifying credentials:

  • A full-time undergraduate degree or diploma from an accredited Canadian institution that takes at least two years of study.
  • A full-time graduate degree or diploma from an accredited Canadian university that takes at least one year to complete.
  • A recognized Ontario institution’s college graduate certificate takes at least a year to complete when pursued full-time.
  • A university graduate certificate from an accredited Ontario institution, which takes at least a year to complete if pursued full-time

The applicant must have attended a recognized Canadian university and lived in Canada for at least half of their degree program in order to be eligible for the program. For the purpose of determining whether or not the graduate certificate is eligible, applicants are required to verify that the official certification they obtained from their receiving institution is an Ontario College Graduate Certificate.

Additional Eligibility Criteria.

In the past, the Employer Job Offer: International Student stream of the OINP allowed candidates to submit an application with a one-year certificate only in cases where the program required a degree for admission. Eligibility requirements for the Ontario Institute of Nursing Program (OINP) have been expanded to accept applicants who have successfully completed any one-year college program that leads to an Ontario College Graduate Certificate. With this update, the pool of certificate programs that are eligible for the OINP has been significantly expanded.
