OINP International Student Stream | Canada Tips For International Students

The International Student Stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) provides international students with a job offer in an approved skilled occupation in Ontario with a pathway to permanent residence.

The OINP International Student Stream is designed for foreign national students who have recently graduated from a recognized study program in Canada and have a full-time job offer for a skilled position from a company in Ontario.

This article provides a comprehensive overview of the OINP International Student Stream, covering everything from eligibility requirements to the application procedure. Continue reading to learn more.

Eligibility Requirements: Job Offer Applicants

To be eligible for the Ontario International Students stream, a foreign citizen must be offered a job in Ontario by an employer. The position must be full-time and pay at or above the low salary level for that occupation in Ontario. The employment offer must be for a position in National Occupational Classification (NOC) Skill Levels 0, A, or B (or the corresponding TEER level).

Education Level

Anyone applying to the OINP student stream must have earned one of the following educational credentials at a Canadian institution:

  • A degree or diploma that takes two years to complete while studying full-time, or
  • A degree or diploma that takes one year to complete while studying full-time but requires another degree as a prerequisite for admission.

Please keep in mind that a few educational institutions do not qualify for the OINP International Student stream. Before submitting, applicants should check to see if their academic credentials are acceptable.

Desire to Reside

All candidates must submit proof of their intent to reside in Ontario, according to OINP standards. This can be accomplished by demonstrating ties to the province through relatives or previous residence, investment such as the purchase of a property in the province, or participation in Ontario society through volunteer work, etc.

Other qualifications:

  • An applicant must have legal status in Canada at the time of application.
  • The applicant must be investigated for medical and criminal inadmissibility in Canada.

Eligibility Requirements: Employers

Job Offer Requirements

The employer must have a business based in Ontario for the employment offer to qualify in the OINP Employer Job Offer International Student stream. Furthermore, they must have been in operation for at least three years prior to the application date.

The employment offer must be for a full-time, permanent position with compensation that is competitive in the industry.

Requirements for Business

To meet the Ontario PNP standards, the company must have a reputable name in the province, as well as a track record of a positive employment environment and ethical business practices. The company must also meet the minimum gross yearly revenue and employee-required criteria.

If the employer is headquartered in the Greater Toronto Area, the company must have at least CAD 1 million in gross yearly revenue and five full-time employees.
If the employer is located outside of the Greater Toronto Area, the company must have at least CAD 500,000 in gross annual revenue and three full-time employees.

Requirements for Recruitment

The business must also demonstrate that efforts were taken to seek a Canadian citizen for this post prior to hiring a foreign national. If the foreign national is already permitted to work in Ontario, this requirement may be waived.

Application Procedure

Applicants must complete the four procedures outlined below in order to apply to the OINP International Student Stream.

Step 1: Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI).

The International Student stream of the OINP uses a point-based approach to rank applicants. Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) using the OINP e-Filing Portal.

Only the candidates with the highest rankings will be invited to apply (ITA) for the OINP International Student Stream latest draw, according to the OINP International Student Stream points calculator.

Step 2: Submit an application for provincial nomination

After being asked to apply (ITA), an applicant has 14 calendar days to submit an application. The application for the PNP international student stream must be filed electronically with an ONe-key account.

These applications demand extensive personal information as well as supporting documentation. You can get help organizing your materials from an immigration firm. If you receive an ITA, make sure you have everything ready.

Step 3: Obtain a provincial nomination.

Each application has a different processing time. OINP International Students applications are typically handled between 30 to 150 days.

Following the approval of an application, the applicant will get a formal provincial nomination from the province of Ontario.

Step 4, File a federal application for permanent resident status.

Applicants can apply for permanent resident status in the United States after acquiring a provincial nomination.

Like the process of filing for a provincial nomination, this application under the PNP Ontario standards involves substantial personal information and supporting paperwork. You might seek professional assistance to prevent making blunders.

Please keep in mind that the OINP Employer Job Offer International Student stream is not part of Canada’s Express Entry system. As a result, these applications require more time to process. Applicants in the OINP International Student stream draw should expect to wait a year or more for their application to be processed.

Calculator for OINP International Student Stream Scores

As previously stated, the International Graduate Stream Ontario ranks applications using a points-based system. The following is how the score is calculated:
