BRAC International is looking to hire a Country Director.
Main Duties
- Strategic and high-quality development, planning, and management of country programs while complying with the monitoring system.
- Oversee the initiation of planning and operational establishment in Ghana, ensuring the creation and execution of a high-quality country strategic plan along with an annual strategic plan that aligns with local circumstances and organizational objectives.
- Direct and oversee the planning of programme activities, ensure quality execution, and facilitate monitoring and evaluation by providing support and supervision while adhering to the audit standards.
- Guarantee effective and clear resource management while setting up reporting systems that align with the policies and procedures of BRAC, the government, and donors in Ghana.
- Oversee the recruitment and program initiation efforts
- Guarantee the financial sustainability, strategic alliances, and resource mobilization of BRAC Ghana, along with adherence to the audit regulations.
- Direct and manage the writing of proposals, acquisition of grants, and their management to guarantee the long-term viability of the portfolio and the attainment of yearly objectives.
- Enhance financial viability by implementing efficient budget management and resource growth.
- Confirm that sufficient systems are established, adhered to, and observed concerning programme procurement, management, and upkeep of project assets and inventories.
Financial, Budgeting, and Operations Oversight
- Ensure the financial sustainability of the country office by obtaining sufficient indirect cost recovery (ICR), adhering to donor requirements, national legislation, and BRAC International’s financial protocols while executing a long-term sustainability strategy.
- Manage budget development, financial strategy, and punctual financial reporting, aiming for 85% annual and nearly 100% life-of-project budget usage, while guaranteeing careful disbursement and expense oversight.
- To enhance resource use and reduce risk, keep a current risk register, execute prompt mitigation measures, and sustain robust internal controls along with effective financial management systems.
Management of Personnel
- Recruit top-quality, gender-diverse personnel and strategically focus on investing in learning development and the growth of local talent via coaching and mentoring.
- Enhance SMT capabilities for efficient delegation and execution, and establish robust performance management systems that incorporate explicit goal-setting, consistent feedback, and performance evaluations.
- Cultivate a welcoming team atmosphere by encouraging transparent communication, frequent acknowledgment of achievements, and regular involvement of the management team.
Protection
- Establish a culture of safeguarding at every level of the programme by enforcing the safeguarding policy. Serve as a primary resource for support, advice, and knowledge on safeguarding to create a secure working environment
- Accountable for guaranteeing that team members receive adequate training, support, and access to resources related to issues identified and addressed per the safeguarding policy and procedure.
- Adhere to the safeguarding reporting protocol if a reportable incident occurs, and promote this practice among others.
Require Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree in a discipline related to development, economics, public policy, or other social sciences
- A minimum of 12+ years of demonstrated experience in strategic programme management and development within a developing country, including at least 5 years of comparable experience overseeing a country office in a national or international INGO within a varied cultural and socio-economic environment.
- Proven expertise in strategic planning, program creation, and oversight of intricate, multi-party initiatives
- Having experience in establishing new program operations and/or integrating new countries is a valuable asset.
- Strong grasp of financial management and budget oversight, along with knowledge of best practice programming (industry expertise would be beneficial)
- Show expertise in building connections with governmental bodies, private and public sector organizations, along development agencies.

- Proven capacity to operate autonomously, collaborate effectively within a team, maintain high organizational skills, adeptly manage multiple strategic concerns, and exhibit respect for deadlines and time commitments.
- Showed understanding and consideration for gender and diversity
- Proven experience guiding an organization through transformational change. Exhibited proficiency, tolerance, and the capability to engage in varied cultural settings in a culturally suitable way.
